Cyclocross (Rail trail) 3:48:00 48.1 mi (12.7 mph)
That's the furthest I have gone on a bike. My husband and I rode on the Greenway rail trail from Kingsville to Oldcastle (outskirts of Windsor). He rode the whole distance last year, but this was a first for me. You'd think that 60+ hours of OD'ing on Tylenol Cold & Sinus and going through a pile of Kleenex between Wednesday night and this morning would've better prepared me for this jaunt. We had the wind at our back for most of the ride out, which made the ride home a bit more of a slog. Horseback riders have been riding on the Greenway in muddy conditions (which is not cool....they are supposed to ride on the grassy edge), so there were sections that rivalled the cobblestones of the Paris-Roubaix. I had to keep reminding myself to keep my elbows soft so they could act as shock absorbers.
Met a few families out walking and biking, a few horseback riders and a couple runners. Saw a bald eagle (wow!) assorted bluejays, cardinals, 2 wood ducks (wow!!), a goldfinch in his/her summer plumage, a garder snake and mega robins. And probably a few migrating birds that I can't identify. There were a few small patches of snow in the ditches and a couple on the trails (so I rode through one.....), which is VERY unusual for the banana belt. The woods had a green tinge! Bring on spring!
Down and out for the second day in a row. Nary a sniffle for 2 years, then bang. Travel and Escape channel has a free month right now. My husband told me about Boundless on Tuesday night when I went to spin class, and it is being repeated now. 100 km trail run in Mongolia....."sewing machine legs" on the downhills. Very interesting.......intriguing........
Rode to and from spin class, checking out the Greenway on the way home. There is still a snowbank 2' tall just outside of town, all the way across the trail. Ought to be gone in a couple or 3 days.
Last night of the season. We played a mixed squad game with the 15-18 year old girls. My defence partner was the same age as my son. Another fast skate! Finished +1 for the night.
Cyclocross (Gravel/pavement/hills) 1:15:00 [3] 16.7 mi (13.4 mph)
My husband and I took our CX bikes to the Port Stanley area to ride some gravel roads and tackle some hills. Pretty well maxed myself out on 2 different hills.....I miss my granny gears that are on my mountain bike! The sun was shining but the temperature on the lake roads was about 10 degrees F cooler than it was 2-3 miles inland, as there is still a lot of ice on Lake Erie. Hopefully we can do a bit more there on Easter weekend ( and save enough time at the end to get some of Mackie's orangeade and french fries next time!)
