Putting out streamers for tonight's GOAT training. I feel like I was hot and cold at the same time during this entire process.

Orienteering 8:23 [4] 1.61 km (5:13 / km) +16m 4:58 / km

High-speed Windmill training that Ben Conley designed. We got a late start because the Montana Kaimin was on hand to interview the UM team and take some pictures. That was pretty cool.

The training was really fun. Everyone starts in the middle and is assigned a control. At the mass start, you run to that control and then go find the rest of the controls that are set in a circle, trying to catch the person in front of you. Once you are back at the control you started at, you go back to the middle.

Ben did a good job of designing this so the control locations were relatively simple, so you could keep up pretty high speed throughout. All of our legs were pretty trashed from the weekend.

Orienteering 18:27 [3] 2.64 km (6:59 / km) +97m 5:54 / km
ahr:141 max:164

Forked mass start training. I had one of the shorter forkings on the long course, so I got ahead early and stayed ahead until Ben Brady caught me at the second-to-last control. I still had a gap of about ten meters at the last control and made a foolish effort to sprint to the finish. Bad idea - i was outsprinted and now have a sore back.
