Note

My first ever JWOC and european race... Started out really solid and then went downhill at the long route leg. When I looked to plan my route I saw the bridge and then clear cut across the park without realizing the fake wall placed in the passage way... When I got there and saw the tape and the official saying no I kind of freaked out and started trekking up the hill to come behind the baths and then down to 6 - definitely not ideal! I needed to stop and re look at map to see the route at the bottom... After that the rest of the controls before the map flip were back on track except for being pretty dead. Then the map flip and fake walls in the park got me more confused as I could see the control but couldn't get to it so I needed more focused map reading. The noise from the arena and spectators flustered me as well leading to a few slower route choices. Some positive take aways in that I can start focused and well and have now gained experience with a large arena/announcer knowing that it is so important to block all that out and read the map. Also to expect the unexpected! We tried to figure out how the course would be but didn't quite expect such a long leg or a finish loop Ike that. Overall yay for international competition and experience - I'm hoping it can only go up from here! The long tomorrow looks like a tricky one but my endurance and a more relaxed but focused mind set should help :)

Also sorry for not logging the trainings previously, I did my own analysis with the maps along with debriefs with the team just never got it on here...

Orienteering 20:25 [3] 3.32 km (6:09 / km)

Sprint training today - my first time in an old European village and it was very different! I took the first four controls slower to try and get into the map then went at race pace ish, not as fast as it should be. The alleys and turny roads kept you on your toes and overall I felt ok but had a few mistakes some thrown off by construction and others were exiting the control and stuttering on route choice/ not planing the route entirely before hand and then seeing the traps after I left the previous control! All stuff to work on and we have another sprint in a similar village to do so, I plan on looking at more sprint maps as well. A lot more climb than other sprint maps than I've been on!

Running 15:00 [1]

Sprint warm up jog plus dynamic stretches and stuff!

Yoga/Stretching 25:00 [3]

Morning yoga with Jan the yogi overlooking the alps, not too shabby!
