Note
Race was awesome. I surprisingly felt great - I was worried because I haven't been training like I wanted to but I think the rest did me good. The race started with a "kick the golf ball around the pond", then sprint a mile up to the tower at Lapham Peak, climb the stairs, take a team photo and sprint back to the TA. Then a 4 mile mountain bike loop at Lapham to get 3 checkpoints; then bike to Sugar Island Road to begin the paddle. The paddle had 7 checkpoints, 4 were mandatory. Two were very far away. Due to the two nav sections we felt better opportunity to get more checkpoints than spending another 45 minutes paddling. We got 5 and bailed. Then we biked to Pinewoods Campground and had a nav section there with an aerial map. This is right in Andy's back yard, so he did an AWESOME job navigating here. We finished that section, biked back to Lapham, then had a possible 18 checkpoints to get in about 1:45 minutes. We got 11. We got 3rd place in the premier division and 4th overall. My hip was a bit punchy during the race (we jogged a lot) but not too bad. The weather was not great-rained on and off all day, wasn't too windy, but was cold. My feet and clothes were wet for the whole 8 hours. Great end to the season and a fun day outside with two awesome pros! It was great racing with Andy and Keith.
