shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 212 #4

A lot of the long runs I've done lately have been fairly steep with lots of walking but the long races I've got planned over the Summer are mostly quite runnable so wanted to get out for something long where I'd actually be running most of the time. Also couldn't be bothered travelling anywhere more exciting so went for a trot round the skyline. First climb was grim and legs felt tired from yesterday. Got into it as I went on though and going along quite happily. Not working hard but not plodding either. Expected to run about 3:15 or thereabouts so was quite surprised in the second half when I realised I was on for about 3 hours. Still kept things reasonably relaxed. Legs getting a bit tired on the last few climbs but feeling good apart from that. Few jelly babies on top of turnhouse then a few more just before the black hill climb was enough to keep me going. About a litre of water as well. Enough for the run but thirsty afterwards

Drove road in 1:36 so about 1:20 for the second half. 10 mins off last years race to Drove road and only 4 mins off the race pace in the second half. Definitely moving faster at points towards the end than I was in the race since I was feeling a lot fresher. Maybe I'll finally get in reasonably good shape for long races this year
