Orienteering 17:00 [3]

Grand Bazaar sprint = AWESOME!!

Despite being a bit hungover from the party day before (Russians really know how to get the party started) and sore knee after yesterdays massage turned into a torture fest this was definitely cleanest race of the week and got a solid 8th in elites as a result.

Cool area. pretty simple orienteering but everything looks the same so you gotta stay real focused and keep good map contact. Lots of people running everywhere makes it extra interesting. Managed to completely floor a guy when we both weren't concentrating enough. He wasn't the smallest dude but def came off second best against the sebinator in full flight!

This is map of swiss guy who won: http://www.my-maps.ch/dani/show_map.php?user=danie...

Oh yeah. Final update on the Seb vs Valentine Novikov challenge. Was looking a bit dubious mid-week with him clawing back a shitload of time on the classic and some more time on days 3 and 4 but a strong showing today (and him probably walking the course) saw me put 10mins back into him and take out the challenge. A slightly shallow victory in that i think the 72mins he leaked on the first stage were his undoing :) Gonna have to lift his game for next season!

Orienteering 21:00 [3]

Istanbul day 3
Forest/park sprint on the cards today. Very enjoyable.

After probs with feet yday took option to run in salomons. Big mistake. Map was basically one big muddy slippery slope with tracks being nicely paved to imitate an iceskating rink. No grip at all without spikes and spent alot of time on my arse trying to get up or down the quite hilly course (150m in 2.2km).

Think Novikov might have pulled back some more time on me today. Luckily I still have most of my 70min buffer from day 1 left.

WRE tomorrow :)

Istanbul 5days - day 2.
Another epic classic to add to the collection :)

much more fun than yesterday. friendly forest. Still a few nasty bushes in places.

I think i've decided i'm giving up on O shoes forever. Feet really didn't agree with them and second half was extremely painful :(

Ripper arvo sightseeing after. Beaudiful city it is.

Another crap quality map: http://www.dxdeluxe.se/linnekartparmen/show_map.ph...

long legs quite interesting. Took stoopid route to 4. Had decided to run wide to the right then for some reason changed my mind and ran straighter and it was hiiiilly! Happier with route to 7.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

Istanbul Day1.
Had honour of participating in the opening ceremony as the oldest and youngest Aussie participant.

Event was middle distancey around some 'forest' next to the uni campus and then a bit around the campus at the end. The sections of pine were nice but a lot of thick and scrappy stuff and difficult to read vego boundaries. Lost wads of time on 5,7,8 and 17. Doh! Fun though and looking forward to classic tomorrow. Finished a fair bit off the pace I think but havent seen results. Time includes wu

Istanbul is nuts. The traffic is absolutely out of control.

Funny seeing fellow participants wandering around town. On a few occasions i've noticed people thumbing their city maps only to confirm based on clothing they're indeed orienteers! At least I was only thumbing my map in my pocket.

Might put a map up when I get some more motivation and sleep. Stupid hostels...

Big drama with cycling shoes wet as. What did I expect really washing them in the shower yesterday then putting them outside to dry in 7degree heat. Einstein.
Good sweat rate today. Wore Boris's USA o-top and got a lot of farkin' american dude sweating outrageously looks....
