Orienteering race (S6D) 1:13:35 [4] 6.2 km (11:52 / km) +235m 9:59 / km
I had a late start today so I expected a fair amount of advantage with elephant trails. I was correct, quite a few of my controls had elephant trails making it a lot easier (for the record I think this is unfair and that age groups should always be started in the same start block to reduce this significant disparity in terrain conditions for competitors). I was having another solid navigational effort until I didn't see a wall I was looking for as my attack point - I stopped to relocate when I realised that the wall must have been very broken and not always visible - I lost 4 minutes on this leg. (The splits show I was coming 2nd until this leg. Darn it) I then lost time a couple of controls later when I saw a start area just before the control I was looking for, and thought it was my start which was marked on the map 200m to my left. I panicked and lost 90s on this leg as a result. Then on the way to the finish I completely switched off assuming everyone was running to the same last control - this was not the case and I ended up adding 90s to my leg running to an area that was completely unnecessary - that brain out cost me 4th place. Annoyed.
