Runner for Torren's footy.
This was a great game against the top side. Fitzroy came home with the wind to come from 9 points down to win by 2 points. Torren took a great mark in defence with 30 seconds to go. My important job as runner was to tell him and other team mates to slow it down, take time off the clock and find a target near the boundary line. Torren did a much better job of this than North Melbourne :-)

State Series #5 Course 1
Irishtown

Late start after leaving footy in Hawthorn at 11:40am. I was a little tired after being runner and running about 5kms in the morning.
I had a clean run, except for a lack of concentration on the long leg to 9. I accidentally started navigating to 16 and luckily realised without too much damage. This meant that I attacked the control from the south instead of my intended route from the north east. This probably cost me a minute. Otherwise I was quite happy.
I was much closer to Bryan 73 and Brodie 75 than I was last week at the NSW Champs.

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.48 km (8:04 / km) +66m 7:07 / km

I ran back out to pick up the start unit for BK (as I had promised to do this for starting late).

After that I checked out leg 3-4 on course 8. The map and descriptions showed it as a marked route. Unfortunately the tapes were not put out in the forest and as a result Torren couldn't find #4. It was quite a tricky leg without tapes for an M10, so I am not surprised that Torren had trouble.

Northcote to Kinglake and back.
It was a nice sunny day, and I only have a few more days off before I restart work, so I decided to go for a 100km bike ride in the hills NE of Melbourne.
The climb to Kinglake was long, but not too steep, and I was able to keep a good tempo going all the way (29 minutes up). It was pretty cold at the top. After a lunch break at the only cafe left (one had disappeared since last October) I descended the big hill (10 minutes down). It was pretty cold going down so I had to keep my hands warm enough to be able to break around the corners.
I had another bakery break at Eltham, and then completed the trip back home.
