Running club. Descending ladder of 8, 6, 5, 3, 2 min with a generous 3 min rest. The highschooler was there, bumping elbows and the whole bit, so nothing has changed there, expect he never really took the lead, doubt it was because he was at his max. I'm sure he could have smoked me at any time (rumor is that he runs just over 10min for 2 mile). I didn't feel that sharp, was still a bit sore and tired from weekend. Paces were 5:56, 55, 49, 34, 20.

Got a late start as just as I was planning to head out, the booms started. They were off in the distance, but you can't tell if they were going to move over right where I wanted to ride. So I made and ate dinner, then with just enough daylight left, did an out and back on the rt. 34 trail to the end of Sheeps Draw and back.

Note

Finally caught up on AP after neglecting it for a month. Now that I'm not living in two places and have a legit home-office setup, I should be better. Its important to see how little I've been training to make sure I start training more.

Road Bike 10:00 [1] 2.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Commute on the punishing Cannondale.

Road Bike 54:00 [1] 13.53 mi (3:59 / mi)
ahr:115

Legs were quite sore today. Easy ride down 28th to F to dog park and back. Poudre is bank full to limited flooding.

Another Buena Vista course set by Viking, apparently in 2015 as well. I knew he send us to the rocks on the red course and he didn't disappoint". Red course was 7.0km straight line. My fitness I think isn't that great, felt pretty tired from night before and the elevation (9000'+) seemed to make me feel off more than usual. My navigation was decent, but not as good as it should have been. Leaving 1 I was just a hair off on the direction that I got mixed up down in the re-enterant, fortunately I saw 3, or what I thought could have been 3 (which it was) which relocated me quickly, probably lost 2 min there. Going to 5, I'm not sure how I didn't see the big boulder to the south of where I went, but I didn't, which caused a bit of hesitation, but saw the rocks and went right to it. 6 was tricky, I felt like I did well, but wasn't that good at finding it when close, similar for the other rocky controls. After the rocks I was getting tired, had to walk alot of the up hills, something I never like doing. The fatigue also led to more small navigation errors. Going to 12 I didn't check my compass enough and started to go to the wrong rocks and took too long to find the control when I was at the right rocks. Leaving 13 I had the map 90 degrees to how I should have, so went off 90 degree from where I wanted to, fortunately saw that I was wrong. Route choice to 16 not the best, should have gone NW leaving 15, which could have save a bit of climb.

Note - I think the spatial referencing of the map is not quite right in a few places. The little aspen grove that is designated by a vegetation boundary dotted line which had a control on it (neither of my courses), I ran just on the south edge of it both last night and today, but the GPS said I ran a good deal to the north of it both times (corrected in quickroute). Another example is going to 9 today, when in the stream valley, I was definitely was right next to the long hill parallel to the stream (didn't correct in quickroute. I took a bearing there which said I should go straight up and I should hit the control, but I ended up to the west of 9, GPS said I never got close to the long hill. But probably I'm being too picky.

Must have been a time-warp around Buena Vista as the clue sheet said it was 2015. Long night-O, 6.5 km straight line. It was my first chance to use my new headlamp, which worked very well, easily the best headlamp I've ever had. The only thing was that I had it cranked down pretty good that it started to give me a headache towards the end. Ran pretty well. Never could run that fast except one section where I stayed on the road. Detail on the map is always hard to see at night. Going to 3 I missed a form-line spur that sent me off course, but fortunately relocated pretty quickly. To 5 I could see the flat area and there was a lot of slash, so had to go slow. To 6 at the end I was very happy to quickly see the form-line knoll and knew I was too far east. To 13 I ended up a bit east of the control, but I was happy that I easily and correctly determined I needed to go down the re-enterant to find the control. Fun course of the perfect difficulty for a night-O and pretty happy with how I ran.
