Running (mostly off-road) (Easy) 2:51:36 [2] 29.54 km (5:49 / km) +1758m 4:29 / km

Long one in the Pentlands - a bit of a bigger version of the Skyline.

Was sunny and clear when I caught the bus but by the time I got up onto the hills the cloud was down, but still pretty warm so quite good conditions (especially underfoot, driest I've known it). Tested out mid-run fuel for the first time - one Torq gel just over an hour in (on the turn to start heading back towards Hillend), then another one (ft. caffeine) c.2hr in and about 45' before finishing. They went down smoothly (took some water with each too), but didn't really feel a significant change from them - I felt fairly consistent and had no dips in energy throughout the whole run. So, either the gels worked and I timed it right before any dip in energy, or they just added fuel to an a body that, on the day, would have been fine without their addition.

Tried to some very enthusiastic gravel descending which led to a gashed shin, bum and elbow (some funny looks in my direction stepping on the bus afterwards). Hamstrings a bit dodgy on the descents after yesterday's race, so just took them pretty easy. Enjoyed the run a lot!

Running (road+path) warm up/down 20:27 [2] 4.65 km (4:24 / km) +2m 4:23 / km

Legs felt ok, but stomach got quite sore towards the end and felt sick. Had a stomach pains a couple days ago and felt similar to that today.

Running (road+path) race 31:46 [5] 9.77 km (3:15 / km) +4m 3:15 / km

Musselburgh 10k

Solo from the start on my 10k debut. Got into a good rhythm early on and just kept at it as best I could the whole way. A bit of a twisty course, and strong headwind on some sections, but enjoyed and glad that a good portion of the course was off-road.

Started getting a stitch at about 4km, so was trying to manage that as well as feeling sick still. Overall, a fairly good indicator and I enjoyed it.

Running (road+path) (Easy) 39:25 [2] 8.74 km (4:31 / km) +61m 4:21 / km

Easy with some good strides to finish off. Hamstrings got a bit tight doing the strides, but everything else fine.

Running (mostly off-road) (Easy) 1:00:35 [2] 13.03 km (4:39 / km) +138m 4:25 / km

Easy flat route. Felt a bit flat this morning but not nothing particularly tight, and the hill reps seemed to have fixed my hamstrings!
5 PM

Note

Massage - long awaited. Not as bad as I thought, calves just knotted in the usual spot.

Running (road+path) warm up/down 31:19 [2] 6.35 km (4:56 / km) +218m 4:13 / km

Up to Pentlands, pretty much uphill all the way so felt a little tired when we got there!
2 PM

Running (mostly off-road) hills 50:25 [4] 9.28 km (5:26 / km) +775m 3:50 / km

2x(4x3'(1' steady down)) [c.8-9']

With Waldie on the path from Swanston to Allermuir. 3' hard up with a steady 1' back down before repeating x times to get to the summit. On both sets I got to the summit about 20" before the end of the 4th rep, so just turned around and kept running hard back down the hill to finish it off. After finishing the first set I turned around at the bottom of the final steep section to the summit to run it back up with Waldie. Also did a final effort up that last steep bit at the end too. Good session, felt pretty good throughout and felt like I held my form well. Humid day and very thirsty by the end.

Easy around AS. Felt ok on most of the climbs, but hamstrings got tight again after a few descents.

Running (mostly off-road) (Easy) 12:00 [2] 2.62 km (4:35 / km)

Watch died so this is roughly the last bit
