orienteering race (WMOC long final) 1:33:30 [4] ***** 6.78 km (13:47 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Long distance final race in sand dunes. Varied terrain, and I was pleased with most of my legs, but took 23mins in one leg and 25 mins in another. It didn't matter, I was in the non competitive classification.

run 1:04:11 [3] 11.15 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Went for a jog along the Auckland foreshore, from Viaduct Harbour to a jetty about 6km around. Lovely day for a look at Auckland...

orienteering (2nd qualifying race) 54:00 [4] ***** 3.5 km (15:26 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Totally mucked this race, and lost my opportunity for an official final run. Discovered after a few minutes and several visits to a control marked on my map but which had the wrong number on the clue description, that I had the wrong map in my hand. Didn't know I could return to the start and get a new map. Attempted to find my way around the W50 course , but it was really hard and the contours difficult to read. Gave up and walked back disappointed. Had my sook and got over it.

orienteering race (1st long qualifying race) 48:10 [4] **** 4.79 km (10:03 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Made a 10 min error on one short leg, was messy on my navigation on several legs. Lovely forest though... 29th place.

orienteering (Model event) 1:46:00 [2] **** 6.0 km (17:40 / km)
shoes: Black innovates

Walked around the model event with Neil, learning how to read this map and get around in the forested sand dunes

orienteering race (WMOCsprint final) 17:56 [4] *** 2.51 km (7:09 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Ran in the A final in the 55 age class today. This used the city campus for Auckland uni. Not as complex courses today as in the qualification race. Lost time on a couple of legs. Again, difficult to read the tiny representation of stairs with perfect scale mapping... my result today? 28th (just in the top half of the field - 5 mins behind the speedy women)

orienteering race (WMOC sprint qualification) 21:46 [4] **** 2.67 km (8:09 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

The qualification race for the sprint. This was fun; there were many route choice legs around the Epsom campus of the university and lots of challenge. Narrow passages and steps were at times too small to read on the map though... I came 19th, and got into the A final for tomorrow.

orienteering race (Sprint) 20:50 [4] ** 3.4 km (6:08 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Oceania Middle Earth Sprint race around the gardens in the township of Rotorua. Nice little run. It's amazing having over 50 competitors in my age class, most from other countries.

orienteering race 1:06:45 [4] *** 6.59 km (10:08 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Oceania Long distance Middle Earth event in the forests adjacent to Rotorua. The assembly area was on the edge of the redwood forest, but the courses also took us through native forest and clearings. Beautiful place to run. I got very confused on one leg when I didn't have a clear plan. Navigated conservatively using tracks. Able to run fast in places. Very enjoyable...

orienteering race (Middle distance) 1:07:21 [4] ***** 4.34 km (15:31 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Oceania Middle distance race. A very muddy slippery confusing event, which I'm not sure that I enjoyed much. The terrain was open, very steep and had limestone outcrops all over the place. I found them hard to read on the map. Spent the whole time concerned about slipping over.... had a slow time. Didn't use the fences for navigation, which, had I done so, would have saved a lot of time.

orienteering race (Oceania Relays) 56:16 [4] **** 5.19 km (10:50 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Relay event, first leg runner with Suzanne and Pam in the team. I let them down when I spent 15 mins on one short leg. I think I was physically and mentally tired after yesterday's long course, andverybroken sleep....

orienteering (Oceania Long) 1:46:50 [5] ***** 6.98 km (15:18 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Long distance event, and this was a real endurance and concentration testing event! Navigation was very hard,& I wasted 23 mins on one short leg. A little disappointing after yesterday, but it sorted the good navigators from the rest of us...

orienteering race (Sprint) 16:19 [4] ** 2.54 km (6:25 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Oceania sprint race at a university campus in Auckland. For the first time, I experienced flow and I found myself planning the following leg before getting to my target control. Came 5th overall in my age class, and 3rd in the Oceania competition. Left the arena before the award ceremony because it was wet; found out later about the placing and was able to collect a medal the following day.

Step into Life group (Tone up) 1:00:00 [3]

Hard session using body weight and free weight exercises. Left with jelly arms...

orienteering (Rogaining) 3:33:13 [3] 14.15 km (15:04 / km)
shoes: Black innovates

This started out a 6 hour Rogaine, but the weather (cold, intermittently wet and windy) showed up our difficulty with concentration and navigating on an undermapped area in these conditions. We had great difficulty finding a control in vague terrain. Anyway, we finally gave up when our extremities were going numb with cold.

orienteering 1:25:37 [4] 7.43 km (11:31 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Local event using Neil's new Royal George Co map. The map uses very varied terrain. It felt like we were running on 3 or 4 different maps. Some thick vegetation, some mining, some big erosion gullies etc.... tough navigation!

orienteering (Control collection) 17:11 [3] 1.4 km (12:16 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Collected some controls after my course.

Step into Life group (Cardio max) 1:00:00 [4] 6.4 km (9:22 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Interval session tonight. We had 2 x 1km intervals separated by 1.22kms of short intervals with recoveries, squats and lunges. Quite an effort!

orienteering (Sprint training) 23:40 [4] 3.15 km (7:31 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Training session in a mappedschool campus. I misread the map and had to run around half of the course. Goo session; we were trying to focus more on the environment more than the map.

long slow run 1:30:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

This is a guess of the time and distance. I ran with Ilka from Crusoe Res along the channel track for 5km, and after she turned back for home I continued jogging along the channel to Gap Rd in Lockwood. Mt destination was The McEwan grape vines where we were to pick grapes. I crossed the creek and turned left instead of right and ended up a bit out of the way. Rang Neil and met him back at Gap Rd. We picked grapes for just over 2 hours.

Step into Life group (Powerflex) 1:00:00 [3] 1.5 km (40:00 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Great stretch this morning

run 20:35 [3] 3.42 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Asic3000

Jogged to the Powerflex session

orienteering 1:12:44 [4] 7.9 km (9:12 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Middle distance style event on the Diamond Hill terrain. Felt good running today and was able maintain a good pace on most hills. Rough ground, too. The number of spider webs seem to have dropped off significantly, maybe as a result of a couple of cool nights this week.
