I am not good at running early.... jogged round west basin, for once I enjoyed the last stretch, probably because I knew each step was getting me closer to home and there was cold OJ in the fridge with my name on it. well not literally my actual name, obviously, unless I choose to go by the name just juice. the heat is clearly affecting my brain.

Cruisey swim this evening. The girl in the same lane as me had her own program typed up and laminated and she checked it at the end of each lap.

Bilbys intervals. Back into it this week. Super hot weather, though, and I really struggled, even in the warm ups. I did halfway between medium and long which was 5 x 1km with 200 m recoveries. Felt a bit crook at the end due to the heat. But glad I went, it's always fun at dicko track on tuesdays.

had hoped to swim at the pool this evening but ran out of time at work, just managed to squeeze in a quick jog round little black mtn. stopped on the track at the bit where you get a good view of Comm bridge to try to see the canberra capital swimmers in action but my eyes aren't that good so didn't see much except the yellow buoys.

morning intervals round little black mountain with ALJ. I put the intensity as 5 because the last interval finished halfway up the steep track on the side of black mountain, phew that was a hard one. 5 x 3mins (90 sec rec), warm up and warm down jogs too.

swim in the outdoor pool down at the wagga "oasis". that's a beaut pool, especially because it wasn't crowded until the water polo players started their training. swam for ages.

Spending a few days with my parents, which means getting up at the crackers before it heats up. Did 2 laps of the lake at a fairly solid pace then jogged home up the hill and sat under the air conditioning until I got goose bumps.

1 x 1 km followed by 8 x 600 m (200 m recovery between each)
hard to focus on anything except how hot it was
achilles on right foot very sore, same with left hip, but OK once I warmed up properly

Super long cockies run, ainslie first, then down tricky track, up hackett hill, through the pines to bits I haven't been to since the 3 peaks, and finally up majura on the road. Enjoyed the fine weather, pace was OK but it seemed to get quicker through the pines as numbers dwindled and I soon dropped off the back of the lead group up majura. Good fun though. Edgars after, disappointed with service but coffee was really quite good and so was the raisin toast... and the company was top notch as always. :) Great to catch up with scotty too, haven't seen him for years!

Cycling (mtb) 50:00 [3]

Had to fetch my bike from the other side of canberra so made use of the fab action bus system today. It was a very hot ride home and have spent the rest of the day trying to rehydrate, otherwise really enjoyed the cruisey ride, especially because I got to use my new bike tool that I got for christmas to fix my seat perfectly. I really love my bike. I think I've said that before but anyway.

Here's a short list of best/worst for 2008:

best item of clothing bought this year: bilbys bike top, I wear it every time I ride and it's really awesome. Closely followed by underarmour crop. It's very versatile, I wear it running, cycling, swimming in the lake, and triathloning.

best re-fuel after a training session: turkish pide after bilbys intervals one night in the spring. Man that was a good pizza.

best wildlife seen this year: an echidna, recently on black mountain.

worst yobbo moment: earlier this year, some hoons at the substation at black mtn behind csiro. They were dodgy and I think they were fleeing the police, one of them jumped out of a car and over the fence at the substation and ran for his life.

worst training session: a bilbys interval set early in the year when I was still unfit and just couldn't finish. I nearly cried after because I was sure my good running days were gone forever.

best tussle in a race: the end of the canberra half

best finish: the wagga mara because they called my name as I finished and I got a cheer.

best running moment: 2km time trial at bilbys, I felt so quick.

worst O moment: sprint O. Not my forte.

best O moment: ummmmmmm...... actually I really enjoyed picking up controls out at Sandhills. The white gums out there are amazingly beautiful.

have been drinking lots of milk lately. According to the latest runner's world magazine (which I got for Christmas):
"drink chocolate milk to bounce back faster, say researchers... who reported that athletes who refuel with chocolate milk cover more distance and tire less easily in their next workout than athletes who drink a sports drink"
