Fell Race (Fairfield) 1:22:26 [4] 10.07 mi (8:11 / mi) +990m 6:16 / mi
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 190 Orange Pair

Decided to race about halfway through the morning. Got stuck in early but felt pretty pants on the climb. Had to man up to stop Ozzy pulling out too much of a gap. He had 60-90 seconds on me at Fairfield. Dunno what gap behind me to Daz Kay and co was. Thought I would catch Oz and I did, just sitting behind him wiating for him to go properly wrong. Unfortunately Vic Wilkinson pointed him the right way so I had to go past him and the pace ramped up! Approaching the flat 1km track I was just ahead, but my vest dropped out of my bumbag! Schoolboy! Had to stop and go back for it, giving Oz a few seconds which I didnt get back. 2nd, 10 seconds down. Ach.

I dindt climb well, I really had to dig in just to keep running. I was a minute slower than 2 years ago at the top - 2 weeks of not looking after myself properly caught up with me a little perhaps. Had to run L side of wall too - much slower ground. Worth a few minutes.

Got to suffer sometimes in races, you can't always feel great!

Went out flag-chasing - didn't find ANY!

Did the Jaws of Borrowdale course. Was expecting a good course as Lewis planned, and it didn't disappoint. Mistakes on 7, 8 and a trying to cross the Derwent at waist deep levels were the only real wobbles bar a few stops to doublecheck the details. Happy with that, the Lakes really does have some nice areas, and with the right planning can be very enjoyable.

Been a while - steady round the lake. Legs were heavy and slow from race but found some sort of rhythm eventually. Running is a bit of a chore currently, but I am still adjusting to running solo again.

Fell Race (Latrigg) 18:13 [4] 2.39 mi (7:38 / mi) +273m 5:38 / mi

First time at this race, good field lined up. Ricky went out hard and had a gap going onto Spooney. Reeled him in by the open, and passed him en route to summit. Pipped him to the summit itself and raced back. Neck and neck going down, lost the back slightly hitting the firebreak and that was that - he reopened the gap going back along the trails and road. Beat me by 19 seconds. I was 5 seconds off Matt Fraser (old Buttermere YHA buddy) PB, but a respectable time in modern day history (last 15 years).

The record is disgustingly good (16.37). Nothing but complete and utter slack-jawed amazement for that time.

Up Red Pike (with stops) and along to Scarth Gap for another look at Ennerdale lines. Happy enough. With Lewis.

Turned back earlier than planned as feeling quite unwell. Too much booze.
