Orienteering 1:00:00 [4]

FVO Headlamp run at Stirling Uni.
Used some old maps of the British Sprint Champ to do some sprintervals in the uni around the accommodation blocks and campus buildings - warm up, 2 x intervals, recovery jog, 2 x intervals, recovery jog, 1 x interval, pub.
My headlamp was naff (kept tilting down) but I was naffer.

Run 1:10:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:50 / km)
ahr:138 max:164

I've been wanting to do this for a while but never felt I had enough time at lunch.Today both bosses were out ;-)
From work to Kings Park and through Cambusbarron and into Polmaise. Skirted the top from the north southwards looking for the infamous giant Wellingtonia Pines. Found them eventually - 5 standing together where all around had buckled. Majestic. Great views on the ridge and a lovely run in the woods. Starting to plod on the road section back.
900Kc burnt!

(rest day)

Wiped out from a tiny night O event!

Saturday Feb 25, 2012 #

Orienteering race 57:07 [5] ***** 6.1 km (9:22 / km) +347m 7:17 / km
ahr:161 max:172

Scottish Nights Champs, Glend Dye, Deeside.
So much more than the British nights could offer! Great map, great forest, great race. Started out OK and got into a good stride before really stuffing up my exit from 5 and getting confused/losing confidence - forced myself to find a track junction but my confidence had gone and I bottled it from my attackpoint. Lost 4 minutes to Fraser. The rest of it was OK barring a small miss at 12. Feeling sorry that I'd beaten my chaufeurr (Purves) but really enjoyed it and it's not often I beat Muzza in his backyard!
Biggest injury of the night came from trying to open a bottle of beer with a penknife (just the top of a finger thankfully).

Run warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Warm down with Fraser.

Friday Feb 24, 2012 #

Run 35:30 [4] 7.0 km (5:04 / km)
ahr:138 max:169

Usual lunchtime run. Slippier today and a gusty westerly.

Wednesday Feb 22, 2012 #

Orienteering race 45:44 [4] 6.4 km (7:09 / km)
ahr:156 max:179

FVO Night O at Minewoods, Bridge of Allan.
Pretty much on my own after no 3 (much slipping and sliding at the beginning in the woods!). Plodded round choosing poor routes in the estate then enjoyed the wooded section where Rog caught me/I cught Rog and we pushed on together - him stronger on the hills, me a bit more fluid in the nav. It came down to a sprint finish between us and neither of us had checked where the finish was! Comedy.
Great course - thanks Fraser.

Orienteering warm up/down 17:46 [3]

A slippy control collect with Rog.
Then back to the Bryan-Jones for pancakes!

Tuesday Feb 21, 2012 #

Run 35:33 [3] 7.0 km (5:05 / km)

Kings Park Loop.
Holy knee holding out OK, understimated how warm it is!

Monday Feb 20, 2012 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [3]

FVO Pilates & Conditioning.
Despite some key people missing there was still a good turnout and some hard working folk!
Took things easy on the knee.

Sunday Feb 19, 2012 #

Orienteering race 1:01 [5] 7.0 km (9 / km)
ahr:167 max:177

Compass Sport Trophy Scottish Qualifier, Faskally.
Running course 1 against the elite (yeh, great) I was abit rushed to the start (had to dash through the start lanes and missed picking up my descriptions) but made it just. Easy first half of the course, just small misses (ie missed the crags when there weren't any by the wee dam) but missed 2 minutes at 14 when I didn't simplify, didn't have a clear plan and ended up higher in the crags and took me a while to work things out. Running hard thereafter to try catch Bex back up.
A good fast race - just what I need (every weekend) up to the JK. 2 mins down on Rog and just in front of Ben and Fraser.
Elites kicking our butts - 47 mins!
FVO won, just.
Good tea shop after - thanks J!

Run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Saturday Feb 18, 2012 #

Run 32:00 [3]

A run from home on the roads to try out the thigh. Still bruised and sore but I don't think I'm doing any damage running on it. Have been taking Arnica tablets, rubbing in the same in gel form and ibruprofen also along with daily massaging.

After a warm up I ran 12 minutes at 4:30/k and all was bearable (apart from steep downhill). Then I bought a paper and jogged home.

Top evening of TV - recorded athletics from Birmingham and the track cycling WC.

Orienteering 25:00 [3]

FVO Night training in Devilla - Ross, Will, Fraser and Rog.
I didn't get very far - took a fall over a tree at no2 and gave myself a serious dead thigh. Headlamp went seconds later!
Hobbled back to the car. Soup at peggy and Frasers (supplied with ice) cheered me up.

Tuesday Feb 14, 2012 #

Terrain Run 35:13 [3] 7.0 km (5:02 / km)
ahr:147 max:169 weight:70.4kg

Usual lunchtime run round Kings Park.

Sunday Feb 12, 2012 #

Terrain Run 1:15:00 [3]
ahr:128 max:156

Discovered I was missing control 166 from Wednesday night event so back in Sauchie trying to work out what I'd done with it. Turns out it was still there because that's when I met Mark Holliday and had the discussion about him collecting the next few (failing to collect this as we chatted).
I then did my bit for the club and ran round tracking the windblow with my GPS. Not a pleasant session. Used up one of my 9 lives towards the end when I climbed over some windblow and fell to the ground landing onto the spike of the trestle I was carrying. Thankfully my rib cage managed to deflect it as it was heading straight for my heart. Called it a day shortly after....

Saturday Feb 11, 2012 #

Run 41:06 [4] 7.3 km (5:38 / km)
ahr:136 max:157

Usual run from home to Gathering Stone and back.
Feeling spritely once up on the hill.

Friday Feb 10, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Unplanned rest day - forgot my running shoes.

Wednesday Feb 8, 2012 #

4 PM

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3]

Hanging controls for the night event in Sauchie.
Oh dear. windblow.
6 PM

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]

Starting the race off (30 people mass start!) and then watching, collecting in loop 1, wtaching and collecting (bar the 2 I asked Mark Holliday to collect after I'd caught him up 25 minutes at one control).

Shame about the windblow. At least Nixon set a reasonable time of 35 mins for 4.1k. I loved collecting - so much easier when there are reflective canes in the forest!

Tuesday Feb 7, 2012 #

Run 35:30 [3]

Usual run - great weather (shame the inversion hadn't completely cleared as the views would have been immense). Bumped into Louise (Howard) and dog out for a run and passed a Rapplochian on her way to the shops in pyjamas and slippers!
Body pleased with two days off.

Note

30 entries for the night race at Sauchie tomorrow.
Bring it on!

Monday Feb 6, 2012 #

Note

Missing FVO Pilates to attend a Squad Support Fund meeting in Edinburgh (although I hear Brian hosted a great session! Again).

It's a shame some athletes are not able to submit detailed fully completed forms, with coach endorsements included - we'd have been able to give away for more money if they could. In the end we did part with £1300 in total.

Heard that Scott ran an indoor 3k yesterday in 8:19 (paced by Iain Donan) and could have gone faster had there not been lots of punters running the same race on a 200m track. Good stuff.

Sunday Feb 5, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling rough this morning so skipped the Darnaway event.
Not fussed anyway as the planning last year was so rubbish...
Had a lazy morning at Woodpark - M not feeling too good either.

Saturday Feb 4, 2012 #

10 AM

Run 53:40 intensity: (2:05 @1) + (9:31 @2) + (12:11 @3) + (29:01 @4) + (52 @5) 6.75 km (7:57 / km) +39m 7:44 / km

A hard o interval session trying to keep up with Doug and Nixon.
Failing.
1 PM

Run 48:47 [3] 6.53 km (7:28 / km) +129m 6:48 / km

Training at Revack.
Ran from home as Matthew was sleeping and met the group. Stood about too long before the session and couldn't get going. I think I'd ran out of energy too.
Feeling rough.
Matty got his 2nd den of the day.

Friday Feb 3, 2012 #

Run 38:00 [3]

It's amazing how psychological running performance is... usual lunchtime run after a really bad meeting (full of incompetants), didn't enjoy either.

Wednesday Feb 1, 2012 #

6 PM

Run 1:04:36 intensity: (2:50 @0) + (16:24 @1) + (42:54 @2) + (2:28 @3) 7.19 km (8:59 / km) +236m 7:43 / km
ahr:116 max:149

A track, path, terrain circuit round Touch. Top bit of FC forest has been clear felled ;-(. Nice path round the moor and back down past Prince Charlie's Leap.
Rog, Me, Elle and Mark H in that order.
Grub at Gargunnock Inn after with MC, Jon and his folks.
