Sheffield Half. At the start, I still hadn't decided if I was going to push it, or just get around. But my competitive side kicked in and I decided that if I felt OK, I would go hard, and if I felt crap, I would jog.
I didn't feel good at any point, but I didn't feel crap enough to jog. The hill was a struggle but it was easier than last year and I kept a pretty high pace. I was 4th going up the hill, at the top I took a drink and immediately got a stitch and had to back off the pace, so a girl came past. She was being paced and was really nailing it on the steep downhills. I gave her up for lost until I caught her again on the hill from Dore, then we played leapfrog until the hill in the last 1km and I got her.
Pretty pleased with the time, 4 minutes faster than last year and I felt way better at the finish, no quad stiffness at all. Especially considering JK 6 days ago. Most pain is from my left shoulder which I guess is from climbing on Friday and was just aggravated by breathing heavily. No one likes finishing 4th, but I was actually way behind 3rd (2 minutes) and only just ahead of 5th (8 seconds).
