Stanford O-race put on by Rex ("Punch and Run Klub"). Sunny and cool. Counted it as 11 controls since you had to navigate to the finish (which was no more visible than the rest of the controls, each of which was marked by a very small bag).
Map and
Winsplits available.
Start at 10:45 after a long warm-up (to get my left butt loose). Felt sluggish for the first four controls, but ran well after that. Did a very good job of using my magnifier on the run, reading detail very efficiently. Only stopped once to look at the map more carefully, right before climbing the ramp to the courtyard where #7 was (concerned that it might be a multi-level situation and wanted to make sure).
Lost :10 or :15 on #1: The man made object was a small, hard to see pipe, and at that point I didn't know that the bags would be tiny and, in this case, on the ground.
Only other error, a big one, was at #8. Though on the online map the control circles appear as bright red, on the actual map they were dull purple. Since the circle for #8 was almost completely over a building, I didn't see it. What I actually was the lower loop for the numeral 8, which appeared to be centered on a thicket, so that's where I headed! Mighty confused when I got there because the parking lot shown on the map is now a big building. Took about 2 minutes of great confusion before I spotted the control circle around the courtyard.
A lovely day and an excellent reminder of why I love urban sprints!
