Running 30:10 [3] 3.1 mi (9:44 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 19

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! We (and the vet) thought Presto had inhaled a foxtail yesterday, which meant Presto had to be put under anesthesia so that they could poke around in his nose and pull it out. Apparently if the foxtails stay in the nose, they can migrate into the lungs or the brain, both of which cause lots of additional problems (as you might imagine). Unfortunately, they couldn't find the foxtail, but they don't know if that's because it was not, in fact, a foxtail making him sneeze uncontrollably or if it was because his nose is longer than their probe (which seems like an oversight on their part...) or if it was because it had already migrated down into his respiratory system. So many fantastic options...

Anyway, Presto spent last night way too drugged to do any running, and we weren't just going to leave him at home to run without him after the trauma of the vet experience + the continued trauma of the drugs. Instead, I once again got to experience the creepiness of Presto refusing to close his eyes for many hours, which is apparently how he responds to anesthesia. Sam thinks it's weird that this disturbs me so much, but it's just so unnatural!

Presto was feeling a lot better today (although still a bit slow), so we went for a run. It's been a while since I've jogged up this hill, and I could tell!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs. It's also been a while since I've done these. Tuck-ups were harder than usual.

Orienteering 52:42 [3] *** 4.5 mi (11:43 / mi)
30c shoes: Brooks Running 19

Pre-running the UC Berkeley orienteering course for next week with Sam, Presto, Tori, Carlo, and Kevin! Tori's going to be in Latvia next weekend, so she and the Stanford crew came over to Berkeley to pre-run the courses this week. I started last since I knew where all the controls were, but between Presto acting like a sea anchor (or land anchor in this case) and just generally being slower than Tori and Kevin who started 2 and 1 minute ahead of me, I didn't really see people much out there. It was good to get out for some orienteering, and get some feedback on the courses! And lunch and cinnamon rolls afterward were also excellent :-).

Hiking 2:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (15:00 / mi) +600m 12:10 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 18

Hiking with Sam and Presto up Montara Mountain! Really nice little hike up the mountain with super nice views of Montara beach, Grey Whale Cove, and the fog. We've been here a few times before, but it is hot today, and a place near the ocean sounded like the best bet. No whales this time, which was sad. We (hopefully) won't be paying for this in a few days, we went on a few smaller trails that turned out to be overgrown with poison oak, and I'm pretty sure it brushed both of our legs... We used lots of technu when we got home, so fingers crossed!
