Fun first experience sans Bart for Atsuko, Russ, Brook, and I today. Ventured out on our own to the Macpherson. Quite an interesting experience. We are more than ever humbled at Bart's ability to guide us. It was however a great adventure for us today. Had a map with me but then when we got to the trail head i realized it was not in my pocket. Turns out i left it at home. Couldn't believe it. Bart sent a photo to me by text which was useless. Got up to the Furry knob by following an uptrack. Had to make some judgment calls about which one to choose but we kind of felt like we had cheated. Once we got up to the top neither Atsuko, Brook, or I felt like we'd been there before. A quick call to Bart helped sort us out. Had an awesome ski down. Although i do not think i've ever skied the line we did. Deep, fast pow, completely untracked. Then climbed up to the Burnt knob. I was less worried about getting there but it proved to be a challenge. Ended up not taking the usual way up. The up track we were on was not right, so walked through the woods to find what we found was more appropriate. Still ended up further back then we anticipated. Managed to ski down it no problem (my memory was much better there). Great snow with no tracks in the top half. The final decent did have tracks but lots of fresh powder to be had. Overall a good experience but we all felt like we have so much to learn.
