walk/shuffle (WHALE!!!) 45:00 [3] 5.0 km (9:00 / km)
shoes: Mudclaw

Did the loops out from the lighthouse. Thoroughly enjoyed myself trotting down the slopes and bouncing around the rocks, had a hard time getting back up the slopes, despite the sand being nicely damp and a solid surface underneath. Kept reassuring myself that I was not dead. No dead thing could cough that much.

Gentle stack on the down slope of the blue trail - failed to pick my feet up enough and just couldn't get my balance back before the next corner. Was awesome to turn up back at Bunker Bay resort covered in dirt. Hot.

Best of all we saw a whale. I was just turning to hilarity to ask if she'd seen any whales, but all I managed to do was point and go "WHALEWHALEWHALE" as I saw a humpback falling back into the waves. He played for quite a while longer and we just stood and watched.

My first Cape Naturaliste whale. So cool.

Saw waterspouts forming a little later in the day and walked out in the middle of a purchasing transaction - with the seller, who also would rather watch waterspouts than do commerce.

cycling (Boranup) 2:30:00 [3]

Borrowed a bike, rather than ride my own. So much nicer! A Kona hardtail of some description, no gears on the front - perfectly happy with it, despite the enormous width of the bars.

Still sick and coughing up a lung, so it didn't take too long before I was feeling pretty grey and pathetic and was having difficulty getting up the very gentle slopes we were on.

Pity as was really comfy on the bike by then and hit the couple of obstacles on the way back feeling very in control and flowy and having a great time and then dying in a spluttering heap when required to pedal anywhere.

hilarity visibly improving in 10 minute blocks and completely cheerful about the couple of stacks she had.

Rob judged the level for us perfectly. Full marks to Dirty Detours.

Swimming (club) 1:00:00 [3]

Lots of butterfly again today. Fun.

Back in Lane 3. Arrived late, still sick, and immediately dobbed in as fastest swimmer in the lane. Which is true, but only under certain circumstances (ie continuous distance 200m+, open water or half-lap sprints) and is the opposite of reality under specific circumstances (any time a turn is required or distances 25-100m). So awkward. Maggie and I never got ourselves properly sorted out and I had to pull up during the main set twice so as not to swim over the top of one of the slower girls.

Changing to a much looser kicking style has made me much happier (I have no idea yet if it has made me faster). I am much more comfortable, have much more air and am not fighting the water anywhere near as much. Apparently "straight legs" doesn't mean locked tense really, really straight legs, it means relaxed straight legs that bend naturally at the knee as you kick from the hip. I did 200m of kicking today and didn't want to kill people at any point. AMAZING.
