Commute 35:00 [3] 16.0 km (27.4 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Ride in, I got there.

Arms very tired today, even typing is wearing them out.
5 PM

Road Ride 1:24:00 [3] 37.0 km (26.4 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

rode from work, north up freeway to Powis, across to the beach and then down the coast home.

Struggled a bit finding my way out of the city but remembered the way just as I got to intersections. Coming through the little suburb just before Hale Rd I saw two trade vans and six people hanging christmas lights at one house. nutters.

Right knee start burning around Swanbourne, just at the top of the knee cap. cruised home from there. Just enough sea breeze to make it cool without making the riding too hard.

Route question? whats the freeway path like between Powis and Reid Hwy?

Flat Paddle 9:43 [3] 0.85 km (11:26 / km) +68m 8:11 / km
ahr:116 max:143 shoes: Epic V10

if I time my warm up then I don't need to worry about setting up the GPS out there.

Ocean Paddle race (Bay 2 Beach) 1:35:10 [4] 16.56 km (5:45 / km) +22m 5:43 / km
ahr:155 max:169 shoes: Epic V10

Arms felt a bit flat in the warm up so I took it out easy off the start, choosing the right end of the line and getting on the front row menat that I was still travelling OK after the first 500m when I round myself on the rear quarter of Old Nemesis Pete, he was getting pushed right and I was getting squeezed left so we came together and I got my blade wedged between the boats. I had to really pull to get my blade back which nearly sent me out the other side of the boat but a big brace saved me. Then I spent the next minute berating him and telling him he had to let me win. He later said he felt really guilty about it until he turned around and saw it was me. nice.

I fell of the back in those shenanigans then a pack of about 12 paddlers started to creep away.in the interests of pacing I let them go but a convenient boat wash before the first corner kept me in contact. the group spread out down Blackwall Reach and I swapped between wash hanging and surfing boat waves down to the traffic bridge. After the bridge the boat washes started getting bigger and I had to throw another big brace and collect a boat full of water as I was overtaking Wil Acworth, which he found amusing.

Out to the heads was OK if a little bumpy but we turned the corner and a brick wall slammed into me. see if you can pick the turn on the speed graph below.......

It wasn't actully that bad early on as I was in a group of 4 wash hanging, though I did manage to bump into the other three in the space of 2 seconds at one time. They didn't appreciate it much. but the group split up then the bloke on the front started playing silly buggers so I let him go. '

After the turn buoy at Leightons the lack of long paddles recently really hit home. I just struggled to hold speed and my arms wouldn't extend. all a bit shit. I lost 7 places between there and the finish including a vet in a V10 sport and a small chick in a Robberg. sigh.

finished 55th overall, 17th category, chicked twice, plasticised twice.

The important results were I was 1:26 before Andrew (compared to 5 mins in the Classic Paddle) and I beat Frenchie. which is something that not all blokes who paddle molokais can say. cough, rabbit, cough

Elbow was OK during the race, but achey afterwards and did not enjoy moving through 150-170 degrees. icing it now.

Orienteering race (MetrO) 37:33 [3] 7.27 km (5:10 / km) +114m 4:47 / km
ahr:168 max:178 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 5

MeterO. lots of fast looking people doing enthusiastic warm ups would have put all they newbies off. They should be banned.

Michelle told me there were 24 controls and we had to collect 20. so I planned to drop 4. even as I punched 26 I didn't question why there was a 26 on a course with 24 controls. But since I actually dropped 5 (stupid map folding) I only collected one extra. I am not sure if that was good or bad luck. Probably just stupid.

Deliberately took off a bit slower this week since I haven't run for a fortnight, I picked it up for a while in the middle but still faded towards the end, notably slower than previously when I ran 4:51 4:46 but still good enough to be one spot and three minutes behind fletch. The slower pace meant that there was minimal glute and calf soreness after the event though, definitely up for a mid week run.

Commute 34:00 [3] 16.0 km (28.2 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

severe case of CBF this morning put paid to any thoughts of paddling. average plod to work on the bike instead.
4 PM

Road Ride 1:00:00 [3] 26.0 km (26.0 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

ride home with some extra distance, google map said the route was 31km. it lied. what's a good route from the city to Scarborough?

right knee started hurting again, I suspect it is due to the relocated cleat position. or because I don't stretch enough.

Commute 33:00 [3] 16.0 km (29.1 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

ride in, bit of a blast down the freeway trying unsuccessfully to shake some people off my tail.
5 PM

Commute 35:00 [3] 16.2 km (27.8 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

ride home, as I got to the narrows I could see about 20 commuters straggling their way across it, I had caught 19 of them by the first bend but it took me till the South Perth jetty to catch the last guy. then as I overtook I realised he was on a fixie.

I slowed to about 26 into the wind opposite SoPYC and mr fixie came back past, he got a bit of a jump in the traffic after canning bridge but I reeled him in up the hill and blew past on the gentle downslope. He overtook again on the flat of the southern river foreshore and held a punishing 32km/hr into the wind the whole way along. The lack of coasting caught him out through the twisty stuff at the end so I got back past and led to canning highway, he took the pedestrian crossing though and got me onto Rome Rd then turned off before I could catch up.

tough ride home.

Flat Paddle 51:37 [3] 8.45 km (6:07 / km)
ahr:123 max:159 shoes: Epic V10

Paddle with Karen and Mark from Red Herring, a cruisy start with some steady stuff in the middle and intervals between the green channell markers towards the end. Leg felt OK which was nice. need to start training properly soon if I am going to do the Doctor.
7 AM

Commute 32:00 [3] 16.0 km (30.0 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Leg felt good enough to ride, and then wasn't too bad the whole way in. stiffened up at work though so I limped around for a while.
5 PM

Commute 39:30 [3] 16.2 km (24.6 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

I must have ridden home. It was probably windy.
