Cycling 1:50:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-1000 2

I had been wanting out on the bike for a while so while I didn't have any specific training today went for a birthday bike run. Lovely day. With dad out to Lilliesleaf with an extra loop where we met mum and stopped at a cafe. Then mum and dad swapped car for bike and I cycled back with mum a more direct route at a nicer pace as I was now the faster one. Still working though as a few hills but really enjoyed it.

Running warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Pre jog with dad then to the start. Drills in car park.
Back along road from finish.

Orienteering race 55:31 [5]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara TR2

Scarborough. Semi urban. Really tricky and lots of slopes. I felt really not in control for the first part because I am really trying not not have my head in the map but couldn't get a balance between this and just running then having to stop. I took a poor route on 12 but things got better in the urban and the park until 18 where I decided the control was inside but it wasn't......
Got the long leg right I think by going over the bridge and probably wasted time on 23 even though I knew it was underneath my route was poor. I was much better through the slope area the second time as simplified things better but hesitant on 27 worrying where I'd hit the path when I should just have ran. Beasted the hill though at the end which helped me take the win over dad.
However, the aim for today was to enjoy it because still on a bit of a down time week and I did that.

Orienteering race 13:54 [5]

Scarborough College Sprint. Really good use of what didn't look like a good area. Wee bit hesitant on 2, no dot on my descriptions for 5 which I thought was strange, then though it must be fence bend but thought that was a wrong description, then thought I should just interpret it as outside as that's more of a bend. Got to outside and it was inside so was raging about how unfair it was! Horrible run between hedge and fence then right back around. Next few easy so pushed hard, had seen 9 and 10 on way to 1. Good through the tricky pick bit. Way into 16 was tricky on the ground so a wee hesitation. Quickly decided the two longer legs and ran them hard. Another few seconds on 20 and 21 having to double check but generally good.

Then was going over the map with mum once finished and saw her descriptions had a dot for 5 so was even more annoyed then I realised that I had something stuck to my description hold which covered that control so was only my own fault. It's passed its best so new one purchased. Still a decent result just annoying to lose 30+secs and I did enjoy it :).

Note
(rest day)

Proper proper rest day. Had the biggest sleep I have had in a long time but still tired. This week I am doing no specific training just doing what I want training wise (not nothing) and have the chance to see my friends etc without having to rush away/get to bed. Need a wee rest both physically and mentally after following a plan basically everyday since September. Training resumes next week as while I am in good shape I have a few more goals before focusing on next summer.

The World Uni's was such a good experience, although I am disappointed with 2 out of 3 races I am glad to get the international experience and I am so motivated to compete at that level again. I know what I have to work on and hope this is the start of things to come.
