Walking 1:00:15 [1] 1.53 mi (39:23 / mi) +9m 38:41 / mi

Went to Concord with Beth & M with idea of walking around Walden after visiting the gas stove place in Littleton. Walden was crowded with Saturday pm visitors and numerous signs made no bones: “No Pets”. So much for that. Was last there Aug 2010 for a swim in daytime alongside BPs kayak and at the end of the month, in the full moon, for a length-of-the-pond swim. Needs to be an off-the radar weekday, if there is such a thing. Took a walk across Rte 2 in Hapgood-Wright Forest which was fine. Nice pond to sit by. We visited old haunts: Taylors’ old place on Rte 27 (4 ac that sprouted a small, dense condo setup), passed MCI Concord, Rte 2 rotary, 127 Elsinore harking back to my earliest Concord, CCHS, lunch in West Concord. Memory Lane stuff.

Wood hauling/stacking 1:15:00 [1]

Janelle, Shane, Beth & I mobilized and moved a lot of heavy, green wood to the wood shed. I'd guess we didn't get two cords moved - tiring in any event, particularly for the over 70s.

When they left, I had thoughts about going to the Y or somewhere for a walk,
but something about the dark, drippy November day got the best of me.

Walking 53:10 [1] 1.58 mi (33:39 / mi) +6m 33:15 / mi

Thanksgiving morning, at Audubon with Mocha. Spent more time in/by fields, thick in places. M got on the opposite side of an electrified fence w/o my seeing. But I eventually figured out it was off - not really interested in touching it. And, when I wanted her back on the outside, she bumped into the wire and reacted with a startle that I mistook for a shock. Grey day with occasional flurries.

Passed by Bow Turkey Trot 5k runners/walkers on the way, recalling the ones we used to do in Burlington.

Note

T eve, M & I took a late walk, mostly for her benefit. Had 2 lites, and the LED/ bright one abruptly switched off, being on the verge of power failure --- tho no way to know other than suspecting. The backup, the "regular" lite, was on the dim side to start with. M has milky eyes and my eyes are useless in such dark in rough forest w/o light. We were close to being blind and blind in tandem, making our way back.

Seeing this near-complete Finland lidar coverage made me wonder if I could find and re-experience the 1983 WVC map near Lahti that I went to - and how much it might have changed, if at all. Finding the map was the hard part but not too hard. The locator map on the map itself made finding the area on the Karttapullautin imaging easy enough. It was fun to find and see virtually no road or field change and vegetation going from white to yellow or vv. -- a span of 33-4 years. One could practically put the course on the lidar basemap and call it a day, with some creative thinking on the part of the user-competitor required.

Walking 52:27 [1] 2.0 mi (26:13 / mi) +54m 24:12 / mi

SPS wander starting around 3:15 pm. My shadow was long, maybe 30’, then the sun dropped into cloud and finally behind a grey line of trees and chill set in. Walked two miles, did not see a soul walking until the final 200 yds. That was a jogger in running shorts, temp must have been in mid30s. Tuesday before Thanksgiving, virtually deserted. Felt like a Sunday. Visited some new parts of the campus. Passed by Bassi's but didn't knock.

Walking 25:00 [1] 1.0 mi (25:00 / mi)

BHS walk at dark, parked at Turee which proved cold. It was cold today - first light view was of white branches and ground.

Went to Best Buy to return some old electric stuff and stopped to look at drones, the Go Pro camera as well as a smart TV - maybe time for a “TV” again a few specific uses.

Was trying out a resurrected 305 for the BHS walk but whatever used to work for gpx transfer doesn't seem to now, for now anyway.

Weightexercise workout 45:00 [3]

Gray, on & off rain blah-type day. From a sunset eve yesterday to the complete opposite in a few short hours; last night's rain set me thinking about what I might have left out or uncovered or etc. which led to interrupted sleep.

Went to the Y around 4pm. I like the Y's mix of young & old - always fun to hear youngsters having fun. And learning "water familiarity" in the pool, then to swim and then maybe be on the Y swim team - as I once was.

NEOC BHT in western MA today - all the hills are brown everywhere one looks. Change is good.

A memory to bring a smile (2011)
