1993 long distance
Long waited run at the 1993 WOC-terrain. I had high expectations and to be honest, they weren't quite fulfilled. Great terrain but I thought it would go to the very top in my rankings. Solid top5 though.
We did our own course with mostly '93 long distance first controls. The beginning was pretty hard cause of the undergrowth and getting used to my new
orienteering shoes. After #1 it got better and the going was more enjoyable. Spotted lots of squirrels and couple of deer's on the way to our #3 (men's #2 - women's #3). After few short legs the best bit started. Perfect surface to run on and still lots of stuff to read on. It lasted almost to the finish.
After the run we thought we'd go for a dip in the lake across the road. The official beach was closed so we drove a little to the side and took a XC-option. While in the water a megaphone sound stated from the road that "THIS IS A NO SWIMMING AREA". We barely skipped shipping to Guantanamo by stalling with the dressing up. The park rangers got tired of waiting us and baled.
