running (roads and trails) 25:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus4

Okay - so I know I ran a couple of times in here, but I can't remember which days or for how long! Too much going on to log regularly right now. Or to train regularly.

Fall play is 11/19&20 ... crunch time now.

running (roads) 32:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8

5:30am run. Forgot that one of the morning runners was away, and so the other didn't show ... so I ran on my own.

But between 5:30 and 6:00 am I counted 15 other runners on Mass Ave. Not bad!

running (trails) 1:28:00 [3]
shoes: Trail Pegasus 3

Gorgeous day. Lovely run. Wish I'd managed more this week, but work and family made time tight again. Back to am running next week.

running (treadmill) 33:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Took a while to warm up, then felt fine.

Cardio - other warm up/down (treadmill walking) 10:00 [1]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Left heel suddenly tweaked with about 1 minute to go. Grrr. Doesn't feel noticeably worse than 'normal' in the morning though ... just typical tightness/ache.

running warm up/down (trails) 10:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8

Nice before, cold and wet after. Ran up the hill toward the shore line - and got blasted by wind. Decided to call it enough.

running race (trails) 33:46 [4]
shoes: Inov8

4.1 mile Ravenswood Trail race in Gloucester, MA. It was a terrific course, particularly for orienteers. Lots of single track with rocks and roots, some hills, some double track (more near the end). A bunch of board walk through swamp in the first mile also, which was a little spooky with the rain - I was more nervous about slipping on the boardwalk section than I ever was about the roots and rocks later.

With a good pack of about 6 for the first half plus, then went past on a rockier downhill section and tried to keep pushing for the rest. It was a little hard to judge the pace not knowing the course, and not being sure how much further I had to run. Next time I would push harder in the last 3rd, as there were not any more significant hills.

It would be a lovely area for a small map - great rocks and terrain, little undergrowth. The swamp part would be pretty useless, but it was all on one side, not in the middle.

Felt good, the cold really did not seem to slow me down this week. Just Ethan being sick held me back (mothering trumps training).

running (roads and trails) 25:00 [2]
shoes: Pegasus4

With Dad around Menotomy. Nice easy run to loosen up before the race tomorrow. It is gorgeous today ... unfortunately may be foul tomorrow!

Household is finally healthy again. Lost a week of running though.

running (treadmill) 29:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Yucky cold didn't seem to bother me while I was running. Felt fine down to 7:30 pace for the second half.

Ethan is finally on medication for walking pneumonia. 12 hours after the first dose the fever is finally gone (after 7 days of fever). Took 2 visits to the doctor.

Strength (abs and arms) 5:00 [1]

Some push ups and sit ups while watching The Biggest Loser ... the trainer said right to the camera that we should all get off the sofa at every ad break and do some push ups. So I did.

Monday Oct 12, 2009 #

Note

Okay, so he isn't healthier. The fever is back up. Amazingly the other 3 of us seem to just have normal colds and we are otherwise fine.

running warm up/down (trails & grass) 20:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Trail Pegasus 3

A bit stiff, but not bad before. After sore heels and generally wiped!

running race (cross country) 20:45 [5] 3.1 mi (6:42 / mi)
shoes: Inov8

Felt a bit dead legged, but I seemed to find a very sensible pace early on. The 2 minutes at 6:22 must have stayed in my head from yesterday, because my mile 1 split was 6:22 (some downhill and track, thus the slower miles later on when I hit the hills!).

Overall I felt like I raced well for how I felt on the day (okay, but not sprightly). I didn't have much of a kick at the end, but I did pull past some people in the final 800 or so. Need to do more speed work - maybe now that Ethan is healthier again ...

running (treadmill) 35:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Steady 8 minute pace, with 2 min at 6:22 pace then 1 min at 6:15 pace. Felt (unsurprisingly) very well rested.

Ethan seems much better today, though he still had a fever this morning.

Note

Home with Ethan all day. He's a little better, but still feverish and with a nasty cough.

running (treadmill) 25:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Home all day with sick Ethan. Looks like H1N1 but they aren't testing, and he doesn't seems sick enough to need to go to the doctor.

orienteering race 49:00 [3]
(injured)

Got orthotics into the VJs, which seemed to help somewhat. Needed to have done it yesterday! It isn't a perfect fit, but I think the shoes will stretch to fit the orthotics in time.

Another pretty clean run. Still hesitant. Bought a magnifier, the kind you wear on your head, it made a big difference, but I hadn't tightened it enough, so it was flopping around. I can't use it while I'm moving, so I have to stand still to read the map. Think I may also try a hand held one (but there weren't any for sale that day).

running (shadowing) 15:00 [2]
(injured)

Heels already hurting. Felt like fartlek. Ethan did a great job on a long white course.

orienteering race 49:00 [3]

Felt okay, but very rusty and hesitant. Clean run. Eyes are definitely in need of help though, couldn't tell the stone walls from the trails - it was DARK in the woods!

Heels hurt immediately afterward, and for most of the following week.
