Running 2:11:28 [2] 12.76 km (10:18 / km) +961m 7:29 / km

From Honister over to Gable, Kirk Fell and back along Moses Trod then cut up to Brandreth and Grey Knotts. Been a stunning last few days so good to get out properly before weather breaks tomorrow. Came off the path descending Gable to the tarn and went down some horrible scree instead.

Wednesday Oct 30, 2019 #

Note

Walked up Dale Head and down to tarn.

Note
(sick)

Pretty tired. Walked halfway up Knott Rigg, stopped for a quick sunbathe and ended up falling asleep for an hour. Need an early night. Ashia had a cold at the weekend which I think I have picked up, not too surprising because I kept handing her my soft flask.

Monday Oct 28, 2019 #

Note

Feet a bit sore and swollen from the weekend. Walked up Snockrigg and Robinson very slowly and stopped a few times to stretch.

Running 4:27:41 [1] 19.68 km (13:36 / km) +655m 11:40 / km

Straight up the hill to the first control and a very nice sunrise. My compass got a massive bubble in (second Silva one of the same model that has done the same thing!) but fortunately excellent visibility again. Ashia seemed to perk up a lot as we had actually done quite well on day 1. Got the right score controls and then only a few controls after the road crossing to the finish. Somehow Ashia's map blew away at some point so it was lucky that wasn't included in the kit check... 8th overall and first womens team so got some more running tights! Woo! A bit frustrating to be going so slowly at times but really enjoyed the weekend, learnt from being cold previously and took warmer stuff for the overnight camp which made it far more pleasant.

Running 5:16:24 [1] 24.46 km (12:56 / km) +528m 11:41 / km

OMM Combined Course - Clyde Murshiel Regional Park. Ashia (friend from school who does a lot of triathlon) asked me if I fancied running quite a while ago and this year we finally got round to entering. I mentioned to her that the terrain would be rough and that she might want to do as much running in terrain as possible beforehand to strengthen ankles etc. Not sure she understood how rough it might be!

Nice early start on day 1, excellent visability which made the navigation pretty simple and just stuck to the red line for every control. The score section was interesting (pick 4 out of 6 controls) with lots of different options but which were all quite even. Ashia was not too quick through the terrain and we probably ran about 4 km all weekend. Took Ashia's bag around halfway and spent to rest of the course with one bag on my front and one on my back which was a little interesting when we reached the peat hags and many times I face planted the floor because I couldn't see my feet. The views over Arran were excellent and because we started so early we had first choice of where to pitch our tent at overnight camp.

Running 1:12:22 [2] 7.88 km (9:11 / km) +447m 7:09 / km

Northern Fells :) Think the northern fells behind Skiddaw are my favourite place to run, just so grassy and runnable. Horseshoe from Longlands which included Longlands Fell and Great Cockup.

Running 1:52:48 [4] 14.21 km (7:56 / km) +560m 6:38 / km

FRA relays nav leg with Rachel. Really enjoyed this, great to be back running in the Peaks and absolutely perfect weather for it. Great planning by Tim, some interesting routechoices some of which we got and the last of which we should have gone direct. Just about managed not to fall down the crag descending from number 4. Good day out.

Easy up Grange Fell.

Running intervals 1:00:49 [4] 10.23 km (5:57 / km) +161m 5:31 / km

WU, KAC intervals, WD. Intervals involved running half a lap of Crow Park whilst partner recovered by running over the top and then handing over for them to run their half lap. Putting some good effort in at the end to try and stop us being lapped but the earlier reps definitely felt more threshold and I think I need a few more people around me to go full gas. Good session though and enjoyed it.

Orienteering 42:29 [3] 5.64 km (7:32 / km) +172m 6:32 / km

Green course at an orienteering event on Great Cockup. Physically didn't feel too bad which I wasn't expecting given how tired I felt yesterday. Orienteering was pretty straight forward, just lost a bit of time on one control not being able to see the boulder amongst bracken.

Running warm up/down 7:58 [2] 1.07 km (7:27 / km) +26m 6:38 / km

Cycling 1:33:34 [2]

29.18km, +372m. Spectating Laura and Ashia doing a SwimRun around Windermere, Rydal and Grasmere. Legs felt a little tired cycling today but not too bad.

Cycling 38:00 [2]

12.44km, +133m. Back to car.

Friday Oct 4, 2019 #

Note

Went walking - Base Brown, Seathwaite Fell, Allen Crags, Glaramara. Horrible descent down Hind Gill back to Seathwaite, very slippery.

Thursday Oct 3, 2019 #

Cycling 1:32:00 [2]

West side of Thirlmere and St John in the Vale. Roads closed to cars so nice and quiet. Bit windy on the way back. 28km, +126m.

Cycling 4:00:00 [2]

Lap of the northern fells, very nice day. Got a puncture riding into Keswick so stopped and changed the inner tube but was a bit stumped as to why the new one didn't fit the wheel properly, parts were overinflating and others underinflating. Went to bike shop to get another one and apparently the rubber had disintegrated. Quite an old spare inner tube I think but didn't realise that could happen... just glad it happened where it did rather than in the middle of nowhere! 72.8km, +1058m.

Cycling 30:00 [1]

Cycled to the Kirkstile and back but was very slow and not really worth logging. Also went for a short walk earlier in the day.
