Mt Biking (Bryce Resort) 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Trek Slash 27.5

Hmmm this was 5.5hrs for only 1hr40mins of riding . ..

We drove up to Bryce resort and hired Trek Slashes at the bike park. The trails were pretty good fun if some a bit hard for Sarah, however the runs were only 4-6mins and the chairlift was 10-12mins which was much too much chairlifting and not enough riding :(
Always tomorrow :) and still heaps better than working

Hiking (Laurel Fork Falls) 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Vapour Claws

Hike out on a section of the Appalachian trail along a fork of the Laurel river. Rocky in parts and raining on the way back which made it slippery. Nice walk through rainforest to falls down a 40ft slick rock.

Hiking (Ijams Nature Reserve) 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Vapour Claws

Plan was to rent mt bikes but the bike shop weren't keen and were worried that it might be muddy... So we went out hiking instead. Nice trails would've been fun on mt bike. Much more humid than on the west coast.

Paddling (Santa Barbara) 45:00 [3]

Hire fat flat plastic sit ons and went for a paddle along the beach. Quite washy and weedy out but not cold. Caught a small wave into the beach.

Hiking (Bishops Peak, SLO) 1:15:00 [3] 3.5 mi (21:26 / mi)
shoes: Vapour Claws

Nice walk on a beautiful sunny morning up the highest peak near San Luis Obispo. Lots of people out hiking/running/dog walking. Glad we got out reasonably early (for the USA anyway) as it was warm once out of the tree cover. Quite a pretty hike with lots of cool big rocks at the top.

Hiking (Pfeiffer Falls & ...) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Vapour Claws

Stopped at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to go for a walk and stretch the legs. Nice walk up (and down) to Pfeiffer Falls, quite small looking falls after Yosemite, then over to Valley view which had some cool views back through the valley.

Mt Biking (Santa Cruz demos) 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Juliano Furtado primeiro

Free demos for 3 hours from the Santa Cruz factory in Santa Cruz. Had originally picked a small Bronson to demo but when we rocked up they reckoned it would be too small for me and suggested the Juliana furtado in a medium instead.
It was burnt orange and nicely specced. It rode really well, I felt heaps more comfortable on it than yesterdays 29er on the same trails and much more fun for jumping and stuff too. Almost decided to take it home but I don't really need another new bike and we figured the resale would be crap as a chicks bike.

Mt Biking (Santa Cruz) 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Trek Fuel 9 29er

Started through Wilder Ranch again but then crossed the road and headed to the singletrack behind the uni. Lots and lot of singletracks so we rode around for a bit then headed back towards town. Lots of cool singletracks and eventually found Pogonip and took it back to town. Nice ride.
2 PM

Hiking (Henry Cowell State Park) 1:00:00 [0]

Easy walk in Henry Cowell State Park to see the Redwoods, some really cool tall trees.

Mt Biking (Wilder Ranch) 3:30:00 [3]
shoes: Trek Fuel 9 29er

Ride out to Wilder Ranch, very pretty along the ocean on the bike path. A fair bit of firetrail climb to some fun singletrack. The singletrack looped in and out of Redwood forest which was cool. 29er's definitely made the climbing a bit easier.
Got a bit lost towards the end and did a big hill on the road and then lost all the height on another road. Lovely day for riding.

Hiking (San Francisco) 1:00:00 [2]

Walking around San Francisco, saw Alcatraz and Golden gate bridge, really foggy and windy.

Hiking (Vernal & Nevada Falls) 2:40:00 [3] 11.0 km (14:33 / km) +610m 11:23 / km
shoes: Vapour Claws

Walked out to two sets of falls at Yosemite. Lots of people and busy on the paved road to the first bridge, then the people dropped off as we walked the rest which was nice. Vernal falls was really misty with a rainbow at the bottom, Nevada falls was taller but not as much water.
(Climb according to the NPS website, distance according to the sign at the bottom)
4 PM

Hiking (Mariposa Grove) 55:00 [0]
shoes: Vapour Claws

Drove down to Mariposa grove and walked through the trees, some cool big sequoias out there. Much easier walk than this mornings.

Mt Biking (Mammoth Mountain) 3:35:00 [3]
shoes: Intense Tracer 275

My favourite bike out of the three we rode. Pretty much the perfect bike for the trails too - not too hard on the flats/ups/soft but yet really good at the downhill too. Pike on the front was very nice. Two drops - 1 coming over a jump and realising there was a truck in the way, twisted left and hit the ground, the other near the end when I was tired, hit a stump, stopped and then the front wheel washed in the soft stuff as I took off. Awesome trails and scenery, no bears though :( just 1 deer.

Mt Biking (Mammoth Mountain) 3:00:00 [3]
shoes: Spec Enduro Evo

Another day on the mountain, this time more downhilling. Slog from the bike shop to the shuttle pickup - these bikes are not made for riding uphill. Lots of fun downhills, some cool paved berms and wood ramps and rollovers. Gondola got closed at the end due to the wind but legs were tired by then anyway.

Mt Biking (Mammoth Mountain) 4:00:00 [3]
shoes: Santa Cruz Heckler

First day out at Mammoth, rode most of the blue tracks and a few black ones. Did the main up track the first time and then caught the shuttle and gondola for the rest. Freezing cold and windy at the top (11000+ft), still quite a few patches of snow
