Running 41:33 [3] 2.76 mi (15:03 / mi) +39m 14:25 / mi

I went to the doctor today for a stress test, the last in a series of cardio visits in the past few weeks. I have always had a low heart rate and blood pressure, but I've recently started having heart-pounding palpitations, so I thought I should get that assessed. It looks like everything is okay...an occasional extra heartbeat...but that's about it. I guess I should just appreciate my low heart rate.

To celebrate, I went for a run. Once again, I turned a little earlier than planned because the sky was turning black and there was a lot of thunder. I made it home just in time.

Cycling 44:26 [3] 11.33 mi (15.3 mph) +35m

A short and very hot ride in the afternoon. It's not so exciting because it's on a bike path right next to Rt. 1, but it felt good to get out. I was thinking of going longer, but my shoulder started hurting again, so I turned back.

I saw ospreys, red-winged blackbirds, and many, many seagulls.

Note

In the morning, I went to the doctor and learned more about the heart, and blood going in and blood coming out. Then, an electrician came to fix an outlet in my house, and he taught me about electricity going in and electricity going out.

Then I left for the beach.

Orienteering 1:21:18 [3] 5.54 km (14:41 / km) +132m 13:07 / km

Brown course at Fountainhead. 4.8 km

My second fall yesterday was a Superman sprawl in which I must have really wrenched my shoulder. It hurt a little for the rest of the run, but by last night, it hurt a lot but I could still raise my arm. I put the heating pad on it and took 800 mg ibuprofen.

This morning it still hurt, but I really wanted to go orienteering, so I decided to just walk the Brown course and work on navigation. I did walk the course, my navigation was not stellar, and I made some bad decisions in the woods...the kind that I always have trouble with -- I decide on a route choice and then halfway through, I start modifying it, most often for the worse.

It was also unbelievably hot and muggy. I was sweating before I even started. On some of the controls, I had to help my hurt shoulder/arm with my other hand so I could lift it high enough to punch in at the control.

My arm still hurts.

Running 47:01 [3] 2.99 mi (15:43 / mi) +49m 14:58 / mi

I went for a run today even though I knew it would be pretty muddy. Little did I know. I fell twice early on, hard. Then I slowed down a lot. At the turnaround point, I decided to explore other trails to see if they were less muddy, but they were not. At one point, a huge oak tree had fallen down across the trail, so I had to go into the woods to go around it. I saw I was walking through poison ivy. such an enjoyable run. I got through the rest of the run without falling down, but it was quite slow.

I didn't think trail running was supposed to be a contact sport!

A Mother's Day visit to Mom's. She was not having a great weekend, a little down in the dumps, which is to be expected, I guess. The rainy weather didn't help matters. :-(

I'm working from home today, so I was able to get out for a morning ride. It was overcast and threatening rain, which is way better than hot. It was a pleasant ride in that the trail was lined with blossoming honeysuckle...I just kept taking deep breaths and smiling.

I hadn't quite decided how far I wanted to go out when a "perfect storm" let me know. I had reached a crossroad, my podcast had just ended, I was at 30 minutes, and it started to drizzle. And I had about 30 minutes until I had to log in to begin the work day. So, time to turn.
