Woke up in the early hours with pain in wrist/forearm, been a different pattern each day since Monday, then came across this article.http://highperformancesports.blogspot.co.uk/2006/0...
The basic message being that the nerves in the wrist are compressed by a combination of road vibration and weight bearing along with the wrist angle during cycling. The good news is the nerve damage will repair itself.

I reckon my handlebar hoods have been angled too far upwards causing excessive pressure on ulnar side (little finger) of wrist.

Setup recently oiled mountain bike last used 18 years ago on ancient Tacx magnetic turbo and after some fiddling about did a reasonable short session. Spent time trying to equalise turbo weering pitch so that both legs had the same power (right leg stronger), next need to work on smoothing the deadspots.

Didn't drive as just made swelling worse especially around nerves on wrist. Less haste, more speed!

All change, got re-xrayed and consultant decided there was no fracture. Left with a hand/wrist support, presumably with just a sprained thumb, but no physio advice. Had nil by mouth for 15 hours ready for the Op that never happened!!

Went to A&E and was diagnosed and admitted with a Bennetts fracture and disclocation of the right thumb ready for surgery tomorrow. Caused some gentle mikey taking with all the missing skin and road rash!

W Clandon-Hungry Hill-Ripley-Send-A3 cycletrack-CRASH!
Was riding along the narrow, bumpy A3 cyclepath, saw very thick tall weed leaning over the track, right handlebar and weed locked and took the impact on left shoulder/elbow/knee. A passing runner helped me to my feet and as he grabbed me by the hand I realised my right thumb had been injured, ouch! Will go to A&E to check it out tomorrow. Handlebar grip needs straightening, Cycle top is a gonner, it was already heavily oil stained. Managed to avoid cutting off elasticated glove.
