PP-HP-Grand Ridge RT Lone Ranger rider forces my hand and changes my plan-twice...A rider started up the hard east climb on the south side of GR just behind me. I figured I wouldn't see him again, but I noticed him gaining on me as I went around a switchback. I had planned on a mellow pace, but I stepped it up a bit and dropped him. Coming back up the climb from Duthie, I was back in mellow mode. The same rider mysteriously reappeared behind me, and I repeated the dropping process. I dub him the Lone Ranger, since he is the only person I saw on the trails.

PP-HP-GR-Duthie-Soaring Eagle Bonk no bonk. Despite two DOB's, eating well, and sleeping well, I had very low energy today. Sometimes there is no logical explanation.

Destination walk with Tracy. Our mission was a flu shot for me at Walgreens, but we did it as part of a pleasant walk through the hatchery and downtown Issaquah.

ahr:115 max:150 weight:151lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge-Duthie-Soaring Eagle A few creaks and groans, but no cracks, and I am not talking about myself...I waited this morning for the strong foothills wind to die a bit. It did, but it came back stronger than ever when I was deep in the woods. Other than a few small branches here and there, there were not any downed trees, and I never had to step off of the bike...or dodge a falling tree!

Thursday Nov 17, 2016 #

MTB 2:45:00 [3] 24.7 mi (9.0 mph) +2808ft
ahr:112 max:144 weight:150.6lbs shoes: SW MTB 2012

PP-HP-Grand Ridge RT-HP-PP Off Trail hazel and I meet again..."Off trail, Hazel" said more as a wish than a command. He then resorted to "Come?" and after five tires, Hazel decided to move away from my front wheel. I guess she was curious that something more interesting might be happening near the other human, who happened to be her owner. There is a leash law for a reason, and that reason is that no one bothers to train their dog anymore.

MTB 2:40:00 [4] 24.3 mi (9.1 mph) +3127ft
ahr:118 max:151 weight:151.8lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

PP-HP-Grand Ridge RT-HP-PP More water but less mud. Go figure...We've had 2" of rain since I rode two days ago. There were more puddles, and water trickling down some sections of trail, but a lot less mud???

MTB 2:50:00 [3] 25.0 mi (8.8 mph) +2894ft
ahr:112 max:149 weight:152.2lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

PP-HP-Grand Ridge RT-Duthie Some days the mud is slicker than others...Today was one of those days for some reason, and there were some tricky spots. GR was in pretty good shape overall, but there was a copious amount of mud at Duthie. The trails are rolling slowly, and I had one of my lowest average speeds in a long time.

ahr:111 max:144 weight:151.4lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

GR-Duthie-Soaring Eagle 2x Not Indian Summer, but a nice weather payback and another day in a SS jersey. Day after day with temps between 60 and 70 makes up for the October record rain. It was busy out there today, and I passed 27 riders.

MTB 3:42:00 [4] 34.3 mi (9.3 mph) +3435ft
ahr:114 max:149 weight:151.4lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie-Soaring Eagle-HP-PP "Build the wall" is not a salutation...Of course, neither is "Did the owl attack you?" which is how a woman greeted me at SE. So maybe the 25 year old MTB rider at Duthie thought I was a "friendly" because I was wearing a red jersey and riding a red bike? Perhaps this dude is an unemployed laborer, but I guess if so, he would have said, "Bring back our factories." Whoa, that's more political commentary than I have made in a long, long time!

Pickering-Rainier (but no Rainier) Trail-Hatchery-Creekside Trail. No view of Rainier, but clouds swirling around Tiger and Squak Mountains made for a pretty walk.

Cycling 3:37:00 [3] 57.8 mi (16.0 mph) +3494ft
ahr:121 max:146 weight:151.4lbs shoes: SW road 2013

Black Diamond-Covington Is it election day or XMAS day-all the ingredients for a perfect ride...No political commentary intended. There was so little traffic, it felt more like 2009 XMAS during the depths of the recession, not a weekday during the 2016 Boomtown economy. Other ingredients: light wind, 70 degrees and deep blue skies, a mid-ride 20oz Coke, the resulting decent energy from that, even the rural roads being swept clean and dry, wearing just shorts and a jersey, and not getting a speck of dirt on the summer bike.

MTB 2:37:00 [3] 26.5 mi (10.1 mph) +2441ft
ahr:116 max:149 weight:151.2lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

GR-Duthie-Soaring Eagle Winter MTB riding is now even more fun...My winter MTB is now much closer in performance to my summer MTB. Winter MTB riding is not about going fast, but my winter bike is now smoother, which is faster.

Redmond-Kirkland-Medina Foreign then familiar. Riding a road bike feels a little odd these days, especially when it's ROD.

Walking 58:00 [1] 3.5 mi (3.6 mph) +263ft
weight:152.8lbs (rest day) shoes: Scott Kinabalu Supertrack

Hatchery-DHZ-Rainier Trail-Sycamore Embracing the rain...Because I love the rain, and not just because it keeps everything lush and vibrantly green. I stopped by the Downhill Zone to say hi to Adam.

Friday Nov 4, 2016 #

MTB 2:47:00 [3] 27.4 mi (9.8 mph) +2523ft
ahr:114 max:149 weight:153.8lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge-Duthie-Soaring Eagle S-Tune for the Tough Mudder...MAC is back, and is better than ever. Besides the basic suspension service, Specialized in SLC did a custom S-Tune. The tech tailored the suspension to my weight and riding preferences, and I had them change some characteristics to make the bike perform more like my other MTB. MAC is my former A bike, and it is now an exceptionally sweet B bike.

Highlands 2.0 Grand Ridge 1.0 We could live here if we get tired of tons of falling leaves...The Highlands, that is, where they mowed down all of the beautiful trees when they built the place. It's not likely that we are going to tire of our spectacular cedars, maples, and Doug Firs, but dealing with the leaves is a PITA this time of the year. No trees makes for clean and dry streets when everywhere else is a mess.

Walking 55:00 [1] 3.4 mi (3.7 mph) +300ft
rhr:37 weight:152.2lbs (rest day) shoes: Scott Kinabalu Supertrack

Sycamore-Park Pointe-Creekside Trails Missing the Tough Mudder...I will have my winter MTB bike back on Friday, and I am looking forward to hitting the dirt, which now contains a fair amount of mud. I didn't want to trash the summer MTB, and I wasn't in the mood to ride the winter road bike up and down climbs.

Walking 50:00 [1] 3.5 mi (4.2 mph) +310ft

Community Center-Park Pointe-Sycamore First toque-wearing day...Not that I needed it, but it felt cozy. Besides, I was looking for an excuse to wear one of my colorful Patagonia knit hats.
