Argh, in scramble heading out I left the practice map on the counter. Hopefully hikes and bikes are enough this weekend. Also, will look at calorie counting after the long weekend.

Biking 1:30:01 intensity: (9:43 @0) + (12:52 @1) + (33:07 @2) + (33:29 @3) + (50 @4) 17.82 mi (11.9 mph) +20m

No map, so I elected to bike down to my father in law's place of business. I was originally going to take the White Pine trail, but it was way too soft so I bailed out on some gas company two track and risked life and limb on old 131. Happy with cruising speed given my gearing.

Brian Matthews is likely to join us in whatever config we put up for the Rage. His wealth of experience will be an asset.

Note

Planning some training for the weekend. Cannonsburg Game Area had great terrain, and I only saw half, and it was covered in snow, so I'll go back with a different course tomorrow after I drop off dear wife and daughter.

I'm trying to find some nice seasonal road/two tracks by my in laws for biking. I know of some shortcuts, but a nice long haul would be great. Other than the rail trail.

I was thinking about a rowing session after tv later, but maybe this is good enough for today, with a big hike tomorrow. I could try getting a decent night's rest just for the novelty of it.

I'm back in the gravel again.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

for some nice easy aerobic base building. Saw deer cross the road just meters ahead; many fat raccoons; some possum, and another skunk on Dixboro. The skunk was the scariest.

Jeff was not sold on the "Think Ford Third" concept, and the Lost Islanders are awol.

Note

4th overall at Raccoongaine, missed third by just one medium control, so if I can prepare a more point dense finishing route...well, something to think about for next time.

At least had I gone for 30/40 for the 30 points, I still would be 4th because I couldn't have done it in four minutes to beat 3rd.

Rick should win more super vet rogaine categories; Raccoongaine results are the most popular post ever on the SMOC Facebook page.

Awaiting Raccoongaine results. EXHAUSTED.

2nd in Elite Men to the overall winners, who were unstoppable (Team SOG), 46 of 50 points; I am guessing they are in the high 20s for distance, since I had ~29 controls with 17 miles (AP sometimes rounds up a bit). Brain fuzzy; so no confirmation of overall placing.

Rick took 1st in Super Vets. Cooper was nursing a swollen ankle, amazingly grabbing 22 controls in 5:15. Shane returned on time, but not in the money in a competitive masters division.

Biggest error was to #63. I thought I followed a bearing, but got pushed around by crappy briars, didn't check my compass on the trail, went back down the hill a bit, before finally figuring it out and fighting the fight to the right spot. Lost my number en route! Thankfully that was it save a few bobbles. Felt great through three hours, then started to fade a bit, certainly was low energy in the last two hours. Perhaps went out a shade too hard, plus lack of trekking fitness and hill work.

When the woods were clean, they were awesome. When they were green, you were getting scratched.

Great road trip, would do the whole experience again.

Orange line is intended route, but I found myself ahead of schedule so I changed plans for better or worse. Green is my timing targets assuming 2 mph, but Raccoon Creek is more of a 2.5-3 mph park. I should plan better for a range of possible distances, with better pre-set finishing loops depending on pacing later in the course, so I can keep the last hour more lucrative than I did.
