I spiked the crap out of these. Which is good, as many were white and yellow and orange.

Orienteering 49:22 intensity: (34:25 @1) + (10:32 @2) + (4:12 @3) + (13 @4) *** 2.16 mi (22:50 / mi) +77m 20:34 / mi

I advise not tweaking positions on the fly. But the end of the long leg seemed too easy, so I had to at least give people a chance to foul it up and work harder to relocate. So I spent time verifying the position as I hadn't been to it before.

I should plan water spots earlier, so they are more convenient.
12 PM

Orienteering 2:07:17 intensity: (26 @0) + (1:53:48 @1) + (10:05 @2) + (2:58 @3) *** 4.42 mi (28:48 / mi) +174m 25:40 / mi
ahr:120 max:159 spiked:10/10c shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8s

I need to figure out a stop lockout for the 305, as I appear to have bumped it at the water stop and failed to notice it for two controls - luckily one is a very easy spot, and the other I checked extensively last time when streamering so they should be good.

Again, water stops, what was I thinking!! Two miles with two gallon jugs. I should have dropped them via vehicle!

Note

Frequently appearing at MI races, our favorite IL adventure racer, Drake White, appears to be the token male on a team at Gold Rush Mother Lode.

Note

Purple Pen tip: Start the control auto numbering at some unusably high value (eg, 200). Then when you finalize your layouts, you can walk through and renumber the courses to your whim (eg, 31, 32, 33, etc.) without hitting any collisions.
5 PM

Running 30:45 intensity: (20 @0) + (15 @1) + (48 @2) + (29:22 @3) 3.56 mi (8:38 / mi) +2m 8:37 / mi

I almost didn't get this in.

Sooner or later I'll learn that I should just get up at 5, do something, and then rest easy knowing it's in the bag.

Slept in like a lazy git, but did get night o permit dropped off in person. Didn't meet park super, but did leave donuts.

Lest any of you worry about my technical skills deteriorating...fear not; I included some Island Lake Blue.

Note

So one idea I had is that I didn't take my 17' plastic kayak out at all this year. Perhaps I could sell it and use it to fund a nice packraft, since that'd be required for Untamed New England if that came together, plus then it would offer opportunities to go bikerafting, which sounds interesting but then I'd have to be ambitious enough to do it. The idea of biking to a put in, going somewhere, and then biking home without any out-and-back or shuttling component is intriguing. Or you could lock the bike up when terrorizing chains of local lakes.

It was a big weekend and hopefully tomorrow is also big. Too much stuff to do tonight, bleh!

Nice jog around the wide trails south of Hammel in Huron Meadows. The tree canopy shielded us from the light rain. Lots of little ups and downs.

Cooling down on the way back to the car. Not a single other trail user sighted!
