orienteering 15:21 [3] 2.7 km (5:41 / km)
L and I had entered the Sturt Gorge trail run 20 km, 8 am start. I spent ages the night before packing for this an O straight after, helping L fix his watch etc etc . I had a terrible nights sleep dreaming I missed the start, couldn’t find the start, couldn’t find a toilet before the start etc etc. Then at 6.30 am L woke with a bit of a cough and thought, wisely, he wasn’t up for 20 km. I wasn’t keen enough to go on my own so went back to bed but unfortunately I didn’t fall back to sleep. Still did the second part of the plan the short sprint:
Immanuel College OY course 3 W 45 2.1 km straight line. I had heard before I started this was a ‘runners course’ so I tried to push myself a bit, but had to slow to read detail. The southern section full off uncrossable fences was out of bounds this year which I didn’t mind as there were lots of traps in there! As I was coming out of 4 Jill Congedi tripped in front of me so I stopped to check she was ok but she said to go on. Then I forgot what number I was up to and had to stop and check where I had just been. Got going again and worked hard at trying to keep moving while I was reading the map. Thought came out of 11 and thought I’m nearly there, must’ve dropped my guard and went straight to13!! 12 needed a sharp right turn whereas 13 was a tree tantalisingly in the open in a nice line from 11. Fell right into that trap!! Pushed hard for the last few which I enjoyed, of course at that point not realising my error. Bummer to mp, and on an OY. Silly to let my focus drop, it didn’t require all that much to count order!
Got back to the car to see Roo had somehow opened my lunch box and eaten a fingerbun, a scone, a bread roll, most of the paper bags and an energy gel !!

Leith dropped me and well fed Roo at Mitcham and we ran home via Pony ridge through the Belair following the railway line ( and braving the steps). Lovely sunny day and the creeks wer all looking good! Tired after and my feet were sore.
