I feel like I might be missing your point (were you saying that you hoped to see the comet at 4am this morning?), but as I understand it, the comet was pre-dawn until about a week ago; but since then (and until it gets out of range) it's post-dusk. I haven't looked for it myself, but JanetT posted that she and Glen saw it on Friday evening, and that it was already far enough that they needed binoculars to really see it. Supposed to be under the bowl of the big dipper.

I think you can see it both morning and evening now, but the evening view is better. Might be after your bedtime, because you do have to wait for it to get dark. 10 PM is good, about halfway from the Big Dipper to the horizon. Visible naked eye, but binoculars are good to have as well. Still getting closer to Earth, which helps, but further from the sun, so it's getting dimmer.

Hayden & I were planning an evening excursion to Soapstone last night but it clouded over. Since it supposedly is still visible before dawn we thought we would try if it were clear this AM. It wasn't.. Will watch the skies for a clear evening - morning was just easier since unlikely to encounter DEEP folks (forest officially closes at dusk)

It has gotten hazy around here for the last two evenings just around sunset - after very clear days. Grrr. We could not see it Saturday night.

Got a glimpse of it tonight - cleared out nicely for the most part, but a persistent hazy cloud just kind of hung around the comet. Could only make out a tail in my peripheral vision, but not when looking directly. Had an old telescope with us - not much use with the comet, but very nice view of Jupiter and 3 moons as well as Saturn.

Tonight I saw it from my deck.
