I've read a few logs, and the comments were positive. Were you happy with how things went? Anything you would have done differently with 20/20 hindsight?

Overall I think it went pretty good. As for things I'd consider changing.

1. Learn the SI software so I can pre-enter everything the night before. We were definitely rushed between the sprint and the chase with the computer and it came down to the fact that I didn't know how to use it so Mike and Hans had to handle that for me, which isn't fair to them because they were also running. If I knew how to do it I could have handled it with their help which would have speed things up.

2. Chase probably could have been a bit longer overall for some categories, but with a sprint before I think people were ok with that.

3. Bought too many apples/water, and probably not enough cider. With the temps and wind people wanted hot cider, not cold water.

That's what comes to mind right away. I figure for my first race ever things went really well.

If that's all that you would change, then you did very well indeed! :-) It sounds like you were doing the jobs that 3 volunteers do at most races, and it's impressive that you were able to pull it off.

The race went well! The temperature dropped all day and was near -7°C for the chase. At that temperature, I was glad to be running, not handing out maps with bare hands as Tiny did. Very blustery crossing open fields but there was a trail route choice to avoid some of that. Hot apple cider after went down well.

Both courses had some route choices but made things interesting. One can spend more time trying to set equal courses for all handicaps but in winter conditions, one never knows racers' speeds. I was hoping my 55+ handicap would be a bigger advantage but no such luck.

On the SI, we always need more people who can run the SI software. If you are interested in a copy of the software we have a licence allowing anyone in a particular club to have a copy. I have some instructional info also. I was surprised the laptops and gear worked as well as it did in those temperatures. A heated vehicle seems the way to go for Thomass races.

Great job for your first race organized!

I am sorry we missed it and it sounds like it went well. Don't worry, after the feedback I got after last years Thomass that I set I think everyone else is in the clear....hehe.

Leanimal, I don't think you can take it too personally when the major complaint was that the snow was too deep!

Tim, I really enjoyed the race. Thanks! My major complaint was the wind was too windy.
