You can try for the full set, Black Mountain, Ainsley, Red Hill etc. Most of us mere mortals do them one at a time on seperate days, but I reackon there would be a great ironman race there ride between and run up, or something

Check out some of the recent Canberra logs. Someone did a ride of the full 6 peaks a few weeks ago. "Miss Jones" I think. Names I remember include Black, Majura, Ainslie, Stromlo, Red Hill, Pleasant.

When in Canberra I usually do the run up Black Mountain from the Aranda side. It took me years before I was able to do it without stopping. Not sure if that was increasing fitness, or loss of pain receptors with age. From the other side the track up from near the Botanic Gardens is a better bet than the bitumen road. The track around the upper part of the mountain is quite nice. Makes the hard slog up worth the pain. Never done Majura or Ainslie..

I lived at B&G and the run from there up black mountain is definately the worst way possible. Enjoy.

sounds like a challenge.
can't be as bad as the direct route up mount little Joe from where I was living this year.
or even the 'Mount Donna Buang summit track' (3km with about the same in altitude).

How many k's is a/the path up and what is the climb?
It sounds a bit wimpy to me.

During frequent stays in Canberra a few years back I did the set one at a time. Ususally stayed near the centre of town or in Dickson and ran to the climb, up to the top and then back again.

Doing it on the bike is a bit slack Majura-Ainslie-Black Mtn-Mt Painter-The Pinnacle all in one run is an epic, i think 3 hours 20 minutes for me and BJ.

My best is Black-Ainslie-Majura, with the degree of difficulty boosted by high winds - it was on the day that all the boats sank in the 1998 Sydney-Hobart.

Ah.. I have done Painter. Not really a hill compared to the others though.

James,
I'm sure it doesn't compare to whatever local kyoto mountain you have.

I am going up to millgrove for work this week. Will check out the exact distance and climb.

You see it is not one mountain, but many. Kyoto is built along Feng Shui principles (as are Nara and Xian [China]). Kyoto is in a mountain basin, with an opening in the south. The highest mountain is Mt Hiei but I've just checked and it seems that it's only a bit higher than Black Mountain, but then again, I climb Mt Hiei from an altitude of about 70m. You'd probably be going up Black Mountain starting from a bit higher.
