Running warm up/down 3:31 [2] 0.47 mi (7:29 / mi)

12 PM

Orienteering 16:20 [4] ** 3.01 km (5:26 / km) +60m 4:56 / km
20c

Northwest University sprint, Course 2. This is my second attempt at 15:00 (5:00/k) on this course, but the first one was in 80% February darkness so the splits are faster this go 'round - also hopefully because I am faster...? Last time I ran it in 17:49.

Turns out 15:00 may not be extremely doable pour moi - too many buildings and too many hills. 16:00 is well within reach. Sprint training raawwr! Actual distance: 2.35 miles.

Splits:
1. 0:30 (-2s)
2. 0:35 (-8s)
3. 0:23 (-4s)
4. 0:36 (-2s)
5. 0:32 (-6s)
6. 0:47 (-3s)
7. 0:43 (-12s)
8. 0:43 (-7s)
9. 0:41 (=)
10. 1:29 (-2s)
11. 1:09 (-3s)
12. 1:08 (-7s)
13. 0:55 (=)
14. 0:45 (-7s)
15. 0:52 (-5s)
16. 1:06 (-6s)
17. 0:46 (-6s)
18. 0:57 (-3s)
19. 0:54 (-12s)
20. 0:37 (+1s)
F. 0:12 (+6s - went all the way to the mapped finish this time)

Orienteering 11:35 [4] ** 2.0 km (5:48 / km) +30m 5:23 / km
20c

Northwest University sprint, Course 1. Last time I ran this in 13:14 in near-darkness. Actual distance: 1.65 miles.

Splits:
1. 0:33 (-1s)
2. 0:38 (-3s)
3. 1:06 (+6s - ~10s time loss! Now I am making navigation errors on a course I drew, on a map I mapped, on a campus I've been to approximately 7,004 times! Is that what this world is coming to, I ask you?)
4. 0:49 (+1s)
5. 0:29 (-8s)
6. 1:16 (-26s)
7. 1:21 (-17s)
8. 0:49 (-2s)
9. 0:58 (-18s)
10. 0:39 (-5s)
11. 0:42 (-8s)
12. 0:45 (-21s)
13. 0:26 (-1s)
14. 0:33 (+1s)
15. 0:19 (-3s)
F. 0:12 (+6s - erroneous finish again)

Running 31:40 [3] 3.75 mi (8:27 / mi) +150m 7:31 / mi

From the U to a little bit of map scouting in Watershed Park and back home, with one hill sprint at the end. Peteris thinks there's a bunch of mappable off-trail vegetation stuff in the park, but I am largely inclined to disagree with him, for three reasons. One - I've already mapped and used essentially all of what would be mapped as white woods, so the rest would be deciding between shades of green, which can get ambiguous and is not fun to run through anyway; two - there's not enough contour detail for it to be useful for training purposes; three - there are lots of nettles.

Of course, that being said, I'm sure I'll still map it and hopefully have another Homebrew event this summer. Don't wear shorts!

Running 59:20 [3] 6.08 mi (9:46 / mi) +50m 9:31 / mi

Greenlake Adventure Run, with Pink Socks and Diamond Socks, including a dunk in the lake. It was a really pleasant evening in all respects, and physically I felt much more energized than yesterday.

Cycling hills (morning) 25:35 [4] 6.38 mi (15.0 mph) +95m

Got another flat tire, or rather the flat tire that I just fixed continues to have a slow leak, which I realized about three miles into my seven-mile ride. I managed to get almost all the way to work, and only had to walk half a mile.

Running long (evening) 58:47 [3] 6.5 mi (9:03 / mi) +150m 8:26 / mi

Run home, Jack. No part of my body was happy with me today; I pretty much felt like death all the way home. I'm classifying this 6.5-mile run as "Long" because it felt like I was playing Oregon Trail, my oxen kept dying, everyone had dysentery, and we were only in Nebraska.

Well done, Adam Silver! Some kind of suspension and fine was almost certain, but few predicted a lifetime ban and a forced sale of the team. This seems to be one of those rare situations where morality and common decency actually coincide with the self-interest of corporate America. The cynic in me thinks the Commissioner's decision is based more on the latter than the former, but I want to believe that the opposite is true.

In other news, my OUSA ranking is above 90 for the first time in recorded history. A year ago I was at 73.17. Now I'm at 90.23, which is still way behind most of the other guys. In particular, everyone seems to have gotten crazy high scores on the middle at the 2013 US Champs. Must have been a great race.

Running 1:05:46 [3] 6.9 mi (9:32 / mi) +150m 8:56 / mi

I drew up a quick course for an easy recovery run in Bridle Trails. I always try to find trails or routes I haven't run before, which is getting harder to do.
