Orienteering race (National Relays - 6th) 33:24 [5] *** 5.6 km (5:58 / km) +189m 5:06 / km

Pretty happy with this race. My first time proper on first leg of nationals relay (M20s+M21E have to all run this leg) and I finished 7th equal, or 6th discluding Florian. Nearly got to the front of the pack but a bad route out the second to last control prevented that. Glad to have stuck with them the whole way though and have the energy to nearly get them at the end! (would have had me 4th).

Running warm up/down 18:00 [1] 3.6 km (5:00 / km) +60m 4:37 / km

Should also mention my team came 6th overall - were leading after an awesome run by Liam on 2nd leg! Sofie was sick running last and had a sworth of elites to versus but still managed to bring us home in a commendable place for our clubs 4th team (ahead of team no1 and 3 incidently). Top effort, Sofie fainted on the finish line even #commitment

Orienteering race (Nationals Long - 2nd) 1:12:45 [5] **** 11.9 km (6:07 / km) +430m 5:11 / km

A good performance. Physically, I started aggressive and then pushed hard from midway. Orienteering wise, I was controlled although a few little things cost me around 1:30. Devon ran a brilliant race to win it, and aside from pushing a little harder at the beginning perhaps and nailing every route choice, I don't see any way to have run it better enough to beat him. Overall satisfied.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3.9 km (5:08 / km) +80m 4:39 / km

Orienteering race (Nationals Middle -3rd) 33:39 [4] **** 5.0 km (6:44 / km) +196m 5:38 / km

Disappointed with this run. No mistakes really in the orienteering although I could have gotten second simply by crossing a deer fence instead of going to a crossing point. Control ultimately saved me a medal as I didn't push hard enough physically. Something in my warm up didn't click and looking back it was probably something as small as jogging up the hill towards the start comprising most of the warm up jog - I have learnt that I need to extend my stride before a race to have the aggression that is needed. Whatever the cause, at the crucial point in a middle (about 8 minutes in) where you need to start pushing hard, I slowed inexplicably and didn't push until around 28 minutes in!!

Running warm up/down (+jog afterwards) 30:00 [1] 5.9 km (5:05 / km) +104m 4:40 / km

Did an extra 15-20 or so when I got back to the accomodation as I felt like a jog.

Orienteering race (Nationals Sprint 2nd) 17:55 [5] **** 4.8 km (3:44 / km) +23m 3:39 / km
shoes: Saucony Endorphin Racer

Different for new zealand, a city sprint that reminded me a bit of Oringen sprint albeit a lot flatter. Probably needed a long routechoice leg to add some difficulty however the area was nice. Course was waaaay too long, kinda inexplicable considering the experience of the course setters - 1km shorter would have still put Florians time at 13:40ish! Happy to be right behind tommy and squarely in the elite field - could have got a few seconds on some route choices but nothing major

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 4.2 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Saucony Endorphin Racer

Wow Hastings is dodgy! Had a little look around afterwards, not surprised there was a fight in an intersection in the middle of the course during the race..

Running (easy mish for gels) 57:20 [1] 12.2 km (4:42 / km) +222m 4:18 / km
shoes: Saucony Type A6

Hit a billion busy intersections on the way back which was regrettable. Should have chosen a wiser route

Running intervals (Short fine tune up) 22:28 [3] 4.7 km (4:47 / km)
shoes: Saucony Endorphin Racer

5x 300m target 50 with 2min jogs and then 5x 150m target 24 with 2min jog. Mhmm. Coach wants to train me like a 1500m runner so I've decided to look at other options. Took this as a tune up speed session for the weekend so at least I wouldn't miss anything but feeling a little disappointed that this coach has turned out a bit rubbish. Times were 48-49 and 22-23

So I'm either looking at asking to join Paul Hamblyn's trainings or I have had Barry Mcgee recommended to me. I think I'll ask around a bit before choosing where I want to go, perhaps someone will have a recommendation at nationals this weekend (other options might be joining ACA). Annoying, but hopefully I can get something sorted by next week and then begin the summer build up proper.

Running warm up/down (milling over thoughts) 20:00 [1] 3.8 km (5:16 / km) +70m 4:49 / km
shoes: Saucony Type A6

Most of my group is quitting/has quit this coach, hoping I can convince the last guy to leave if I go

Strength/Conditioning 15:00 [2]

Some loosening, and some ranting

Orienteering race (AOS riverhead) 1:31:58 [3] ***** 10.2 km (9:01 / km) +515m 7:12 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4 (no3)

Quite tricky, muddy and steep. Was going alright but then it got very green and steep with some very up and down legs which were pretty uninspiring. Didn't really go for it at all after that, very different to what nationals will be like next week!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2.8 km (5:21 / km) +20m 5:10 / km

Running long (Shorter Long run) 1:40:10 [2] 17.5 km (5:43 / km) +435m 5:05 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4 (no3)

Ran north from Robinson in riverhead. Headed down a little trail and round a really interesting looking patch of forest, low vis which had grown up enough for the gorse to die but hadn't been thinned yet. Looked pretty alright to run in although it was a tad steep, would also be insanely tricky being dark and really hard to see. Then headed along a track which ended on felling which was a little slow going. Found a track off the next road which gradually got more and more overgrown until I had to turn back. An interesting exploration, so much unusable forest in this area but from the patch into Robinson road into the newest map would have been the coolest long distance race I reckon, so much variety and physicality!
