Easy paced run down to Johnny Appleseed GPS to get a replacement Garmin for Chris Naunton. The start/stop button fell off in his first week of using it.

Orienteering race 1:30:57 [4] 17.22 km (5:17 / km)

ACT Long Distance Chamnps and NOL
7th place, about 4 mins down on 4th.
Probably my best long distance race for 18 months.
I was last starter (except for Jase), and I caught and passed Craig by number 4. It was a lonely run after that, but I was clean and smooth, and enjoyed the open terrain with no big hills and little undergrowth.

This was also the windiest orienteering event that I can remember.
Near the end I felt faster running up hill with the wind, rather than downhill against the wind. I even spread my arms to try to get more lift with the wind.

I was surprised with how well I finished the week. My conditioning over summer had prepared me well for the big load of racing. The only disappointment was getting sick at the wrong time at Easter.

Orienteering race 49:40 [4] **** 8.0 km (6:13 / km)

ACT Middle Champs and NOL
WRE, so no GPS track today.

First start, 4 mins before Shep. I was expecting to see him, but he never caught me. For the most part it was a smooth run, except for the easy 15th control. I saw it on the edge of the clearing in the gully, but I had contoured across too high and told myself that it was not my control. I should have known that there would be no other controls in the region, but instead I looked higher up and lost 90 seconds. This turned out to be the difference between 7th and 13th place.

I lacked some strength in the terrain and on hills, and still felt restricted by last week's illness.

Event: Snow Treble

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)

2 PM

Orienteering race 15:38 [5] *** 3.11 km (5:01 / km)

ACT Sprint Champs and NOL - Buckenderra
7th place.
Clean run with solid speed. I did suffer a bit on the hills and in the terrain, but I was fast in the open.
A pleasing result for a forest sprint. I much prefer the urban/campus sprints.

Running 35:45 [2] 5.82 km (6:09 / km)

Bateman's Bay
Easy run along the beach and up and down a couple of headlands.
Quite tired and lethargic.
Much time was spent in the water with the kids as recovery from Easter.
