Long run with Sarah, Braeloine carpark, over hill to north, west along tracks to south Deeside Road, then over from Deescastle to top of ridge and back along ridge. Sarah had back problems after ca 1-50 and we walked/jogged much of the rest

Railway line 5x4+2. First one very poor, second and third OK, fourth was great and fifth - I slowed! Good to blow away the cobwebs, several weeks since the last intervals.

Longer than usual warm-up and down due to Dess burn being a wee bit higher than normal (over the log jam bridge!)

Pilates session, feeling good - didn't feel any problem with 3 week layoff. Using thera-band and small balls to increase challenge

Monte Cetona from south side, over top and down to near Sarteano. Great run, cloud on top of hill, but good views below this on first climb. Really going well on rest of run and enjoyed it immensely. Good finish to the week's holiday.

From Centro Etrusco (supermarket) to house along road and tracks - feeling pretty knackered. Saw a porcupine.... but dead by the road side.

Run from Cortona town to hills above, along road then up stream, back along tracks - that disappeared and left me wading through head high heather! Descent along powerline ride with lots of thorny bushes. Could have been a better route - Sarah found a much more pleasant run afterwards!

Pietrapociana to house, dropped off to north then tured east along slope on large forest road and cut off this up hill on trail bike route. Managed to find paths to edge of Sarteano - good start point for future exploration runs! through town and down old Etruscan sunken road past tombs to house.

travel day - back to Inverness by minibus - magic weather - blue skies and mist over lochs. Then train to Edinburgh to meet Ewan and Sarah.

Morvich to Skye. Easy start along to Dornie - old road which climbs high and has amazing views. Lunch at Dornie, then along part of main road (horrible) and paths and bog to Kyle, regrouped here and went across bridge together. Good to get to end - an amazing 5 days with almost no wind, very little rain and mild temperatures.

Glen Affric to Morvich (pretty much the Highland Cross route in reverse). Started steadily (and did my best to drag the others slower!). Great views of the hills as we passed through the Glen (I'd never noticed them before on 5 Highland Crosses!!). Lunch at Camban Bothy, then down the gorge - again I'd never noticed the views here - or the rockyness!
Waited at footbridge with Michael until Neil arrived with Suzanna, then pushed hard till end (5 miles) caught all up except Caroline who managed to stay ahead in the final sprint finish! great day out and a memorable run.

Tomich to Glen Affric - all on forest tracks. Nice route, shame it was drizzling all day. Colours along the way were fantastic.

Drumnadrochit to Tomich - guiding. Nicer route than previous day, first half along forest tracks, then small tracks and a peat bog through a forest plantation before dropping down (steeply) to Tomich. Glad to reach hotel still going well.

legs still a bit sore, but easier than yesterday - helped by slower, boggier second half!

Inverness to Drumnadrochit - guiding a group with Running the Highlands. Long day and we started too fast - most suffering by the road at Drumnadrochit - my hamstrings were tightening up a real treat.

achey legs, but did the stretching to try to ease them off a bit. Didn't sleep well - legs too achey and bed too hard!

Cycling with Ewan on tag-along to Glassel Hall (Thomas's birthday party) and from here to Torphins. Got lift back eventually from Gary as it was dark by then!

Glen Cat - out on North side, crossed by farm (followed by 12 minute grind up the hill) , then back along south ridge, dropped to Feughside road and back over ridge by paths. Nice run (done bits of it before), it would be superb to do all in terrain (I wimped out and ran mostly on paths). Great forest in Feughside - need to check it a bit more and try for access.

Run around Dess Wood, a short warm up on paths, then into the terrain and pushing steadily along - looped around entire wood. Going OK, should do this more often rather than just plod round normal loop.
