Long distance in Lough Firrib at Irish champs.

WOW. I don't know if I have ever run on a course this difficult. Or at least with this type of difficulty. The fog was even worse and never let up. Visibility was very limited at about 15 meters. So here's recipe for an interesting race: 1:15000 map with few distinct features, 15 meter visibility, 13k over peat hags and bogs. Whoa. Over half the men in the elite category dropped out.

I really didn't have many errors other than closing in on controls and being exact. I learned from yesterday how important taking and holding a bearing is in these conditions. But even some of the best bearings can leave you off course after following them for too long.

I am actually very happy to have finished this course. I know that a year or two years ago my navigational skills wouldn't have been able to carry me through. But I did it.

No errors to comment on, just lots of fog.

Big thank you to the whole Short family for hosting me, feeding me, and being all around fun people to be with. I hope to see you soon!
