Road/trail 19:00 [2] 1.6 mi (11:52 / mi)

AM DP, Nero along this week as well. Jogged a loop for a change. Further into forest than in past 3 wks which isn't saying much. Zero bugs, one obstructing tree removed, probably by snow mobile club. Could spend too much time with WOC following this am....

Road/trail 58:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (43:00 @2) 4.0 mi (14:30 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

PM DP, Nottingcook around Bog Meadow. Have not seen for 3 wks maybe. Considerable "surgical precision" of blasts of wind making numerous small messes of tangled trees. So dry, one dry stream bed is a first, I think. Finished DF-free, not the 4-6 between Z's eyes per a month ago. Do we like summer or is it the thought of summer? I know I like spring & fall. What if I lived in the South or even Virginia in the summer....

Trail/woods running 35:00 [2] 3.4 mi (10:18 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Just a tired day, no umph. Went to Audubon woods, very shady & pleasant.
Nice views of Turkey Pond, crossed a field, vegetation says summer's old...

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.4 mi (37:29 / mi)

PM DP, pest factor high so pacification was mandatory. Played in the Sandbox.

Nice sandskrit

Road/trail 47:49 [3] 4.7 mi (10:10 / mi) +75m 9:42 / mi
shoes: NB 993

Winant Hill, almost a rerun of yesterday but CW and ran the length of Langley Pkwy. Cloud cover but still hot after 10' - until relative cool of the forest. Bugs all but gone for the summer. Not a murmur from the ham.

Enjoyed a little of the WOC this am before heading out - live womens' start, first control camera. Forest looked very green, likely softening/hiding/ disguising features, making it more difficult than here - here in non-summer season, anyway.

The world wide web is an amazing invention; Charlotte's is immeasurably older, a subtle story, amazing in its own way

Noon Water Tower loop to top of Winant HIll: a green close, distant blue-gray view stretching to Monadnock. Hot but not so humid. Shady woods ok but open road heat is so deenervating. Was halfway along Langley, bailed out, back into shade across Memorial field.

Walking 12:00 [1] 0.4 mi (29:59 / mi)

PM DP, short change.... Beth along, chance encounter as I was just departing the drive in her car as she came from the opposite direction. Followed me onto the power line. Did not stop her engine as the battery is flat. 3 cheers for a Sears Portable power 1150, jack of all trades, incl. jump starting. Best thing since ice cream , at times. Walked around the Sandbox, admiring the new exposure of layers and fresh shapes - indeed a unique sandbox.

Come home to catch up on WOC, a real treat.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

AM DP power line walk in not-often visited place - a sign (h), "Private Property, no trespassing." Ignored it, rules are made to be ignored much of the time. High summer growth. Had a mouse, a little one, let it go and when Z came back she was stirring the tall grass for her entertainment. Shortchanged the dogs but they don't notice and returned not so beaten up. Z is 9 this October but looks younger. M is 8 and nary a gray whisker.

Trail/woods running 48:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (18:00 @3) 4.5 mi (10:40 / mi)

Easy-does-it SPS wander after work, 90F again. Bike path, under 89, down to boathouse & along Turkey Pond on the narrow, rooty path that I don't really care for but some nice views of the pond when one can look up - finally onto SPS hardtop back to car.

Came home at lunch hour to look at GPS-long quals but missed US runners other than Ross' last few...too bad. Love Scandy/Norwegian maps, esp on a large screen Mac desktop. Good map reading training.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.4 mi (37:29 / mi)

PM DP, Beth at craft's fair til late, dogs just waiting/watching me work in drive from back of car. Visited the Sandbox, grand (new) piles with a bank that has to be 25' high. Resembles a miniature Bryce or Zion NP.

Walking 19:30 [1] 0.7 mi (27:51 / mi)

Upper Road AM DP, keeping away fm people - who did not appear to be present anyway. Already warm. Leaves falling.... Read a few-days-old MONITOR: 6 black teens drown in LA because they can't swim (a black on a swimming team is almost an oxymoron), disgruntled CT employee shoots 9, incl himself. Need to remember to take an O map instead. Released one mouse as well. Them mice ate a good part of 2 chocolate bars last week.

Trail/woods running 14:59 [4] 2.1 mi (7:08 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

SPS XC after work 90F, brought a jug of water. Felt cool in the woods but after 2 splits I was hot & tired and not thinking positively so stopped for 30", then cont'd the 3:17 split - feeling worse, so stopped again & walked to the stream where I was considering a deep dip, but, feeling guilty, splashed water on me & returned to the last 2 splits, also slow. Not a day for "performance." That's ok so long as no time lost to injury. Minimal feedbk from the hamstring - so maybe by end of month I'll wonder (and begin to believe) if it has joined past history.

Came home at noon, skipping MSO. Among other things, watched WOC. The GPS coverage feature was great. Can't find a replay now that I have more time.

Trail/woods running 19:30 [2] 2.0 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

PM DP on Bower loop with 2 hot but happy dogs after 9 days in kennel. 87F! Not used to it - much cooler at water's edge. Did not bring a cap & removed the cotton t-shirt and yet the deer flies were scare - did not bother me at all. Seems that they've run their course for the season. Some of the old man-made knolls have been moved around by a large-scale soil sifter.

Long day of travel making for kinked legs - picked up anchor at Isle au Haut at 0525 and entered driveway at 4pm.
