warm up/down 8:00 [1]
shoes: bright pink

Very cold but the necessary curtailing to pay a visit was very worthwhile.

Park Run (Callaghan a) 39:41 [3] 5.45 km (7:17 / km) +70m 6:51 / km
shoes: bright pink

Still cold and not many of the old faces in attendance - i guess the Gold Coast Half and Full was the attraction - surely not people lined up to vote!!
At the briefing we were informed that the building works from last week were continuing and that the route would be longer - continuing uphill - but hey just follow the person in front. That would not be a problem for me.
As it happened the addition was about 100m according to rockman - so that added on about 400m and I think the buildings are longer the further up the hill you go. rockman will dispute this, I am sure.

Start-steps Rainforest walk -12:00 Rode through the initial challenges but even on the downhill section on the road things didn't settle. Better than last time but very disinterested! Then the additional slog further uphill.

Steps - cone 7:37 Fairly happy with this, while not being spectacular. Ran about half of Engineering hill path - a first.
Cone - steps Rainforest Walk 7:00 (26:37)- not too bad. This was about the time I remembered that yesterday at the gym was strength day and right about then my glutes decided to complain - and didn't let up for the rest of the time.
Steps - Finish - 13:01 (39:41) Expected this because of the additional climb and distance and a few stops for whaling!

Only got the feeling in my fingers back at the bridge over the road on the way back - so about 3km into run and not sure I ever got my toes back until the end.
I think the officials could have repositioned the turnaround cone to offset the additional distance - but not a real problem - just no PBs happening - for others.

gym class (Body Sculpt) 1:00:00 [4]

A good Cory class - basically everything was 5-4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4-5 starting with legs, then shoulders, then biceps then triceps but sometimes it was 30-25-20-15-20 which was pretty full on. Good class - only managed 1 run in the time allowed.

walking 40:00 [3]

Purposeful walk between car modifiers and bus stop and bus stop and home. Beautiful morning, a tiny brisk in the shade.

Note

Great day at Hunter Regional Champs. From the group of last week's sessions 6 in total appeared. All did very well, even the less "athletic". Placings are nice, enjoyment the preferred outcome, and so we got both.

Had a winner and 2nd in the 13yr Line course as well as 5th and 7th, 2nd in 12yr and another 4th in 12s. Then in Score course 1st and 2nd as well as 5th, 7th and another placing and a DNS (rolled ankle in pushing during the Line course) in the D Score Course. Unlucky placing was the same lad who placed 2nd in each course - so he's getting the All Rounder Award to be delivered to school tomorrow. I think that will please him.

Absolutely beautiful day weatherwise. I managed to take a group of parents out for a walk and one took off on his own - which was very pleasing; another is a Maths teacher and she is gunning to do an excursion of this type soon.

Sad note for day - my wonderful group from last year from Irrawang who likewise did so well didn't score a certificate this year but had a great time and were very happy to see me again. NEXT year we'll have a refresher course!!

Another HVSC done!

massage 1:10:00 [2]

First of twin appointments, something i was to do after the last one but lulled myself into thinking I was managing tightness appropriately. Now have a lot less back stiffness but still some to go - after 2 runs at weekend and should be all fine then.

Smorgasbord 45:00 [2]

Knee very sore, most of the rest is OK and back very very tight so no class for me. I didn't stay in warm bed (like someone did).
20 min - bike
10 min - elliptical
15 min walking - 4% incline. HR got to 117 which is pretty good for me.

Event (Poppethead - NOY) 1:02:08 [3] *** 5.87 km (10:35 / km)
spiked:13/15c

Really good course set by Lyndy. Much of the forest had been burnt so some good running possibly and fast times expected (from others).
S-1 took safe option but found marsh easily.
1-2 first of the long legs. Did it on bearing counting off track, fence, track and watercourse. Anticipated I'd drifted to the North so when the w/c turned up I went S - and so it was. Getting much better at picking which way to go on a "50-50".
2-3 followed w/c, though some of the heavy green was unwelcome. Picked up minor track to cross w/c and in to control.
3-4 heavy green so chose minor track option
4-5 - bearing and noted dry ditch
5-6-- bearing
6-7 - bearing and beside w/c
7-8 - thought this might be a danger control in vague area but good visibility courtesy of burnt area helped.
8-9 - second of the long legs - was saying a couple of words under my breath but calmed down and broke it up. Must have been Karma as I stuffed this one up badly. Took bearing and ploughed through the green then picked up minor track leading to major track, leading off to minor track towards the OOB area. Always tend to think sinister thoughts of this place - too many tv shows of radioactive plants, high fences etc. Kept to track but decided when I could see the PLANT I'd go parallel to fence and pick up the w/c system I needed. But I took off too high and found a w/c (tick) and so the next will be the one I want. But having been too high i'd got an additional w/c and so started upstream and found a minor w/c (tick) some small minor w/c leading into the w/c and NO control. Thought I shouldn't need to go further but did then decided enough! so backtracked. Picked up major creek again, and found myself repeating my path just a little high - perhaps??? no. Again turned North and upstream but not there (still!!). OK back to high fence and try again, surely I haven't gone along the wrong tributary....Perhaps this is the attackpoint w/c and mine is the next. URGH Go further, find a w/c, and out there loud and proud that control in the SE minor w/c. 25 mins lost!!!!
9-10 a bit dispirited now and cranky with myself so took to tracks and it seemed for ages to get to 10, but no real problems
10-11 - bearing, but need to be careful after track to pick up termite mound 0.7m tall. Helped by burn off again. Thought as I was pretty close to F that that would be IT. But no - it still goes on.
11 - 12 bearing to w/c and was proudest of all controls today with this one. While it was clearly on other side of w/c picking exactly where I was took some thought. Noted the elongated cutout, small branch w/c, major w/c then branch. All spot on!
12-13 Follow along w/c - not much happening here.
13-14 - head for home. Decided to take minor track after bearing.
14-F map away and bolt in a sort of fashion but about 50m from F banner I tripped over the invisible tree root on the dirt track. I don't often fall but this was a doosey: tripped on right foot, landed on left knee and right cheek, jaw, right hand, right shoulder as I did a rollover. Mouthful of dirt and scraped palm and gritty feeling in my mouth sharp edge to tooth, ho hum.
Made it to finish a bit the worse for wear. Back has been tight for the whole time - this did not help.

6pm health check : One large egg on L knee, tooth starting to be less sharp (because I keep rubbing it), back very very sore, R hand bruised, R shoulder sore due to judder impact. Face seems OK but maybe black eye later - certainly one cheek is larger than the other. Nothing major so I shall whinge no more.
OK - so really enjoyed the course - good setting and great area.
