Checking out the trails around the old Hackett Hill map area. Now the Cedar Swamp Preserve, owned by the NH Nature Conservancy. Some nice terrain for O, some sub-par sections as well.

Boscawen Town Forest, from the Concord side. Warmer than I would have preferred, but that's what happens when I waffle around in the morning, deciding what adventure I want to answer the call of for that day. Some nice up and down, good trail network. Got confused at one junction when I was expecting just a trail crossing, but the other trail was an improved gravel road. Guess they'd put that in at some time when some logging was going on. Definite O possibilities - plenty of parking (some roadside) on the Boscawen terminus of the Old Weir Road.

Kayaking the Merrimack. Launched in Boscawen, just N of the county jail complex. Was smart and went upstream first - current was going pretty strong overall. Had to work really hard just before I turned around - coming up through the ripples. Was barely making headway for a bit. Much less effort expended going back downstream.

Pawtuckaway - logged areas along the entrance road. A real mixed bag - some areas are still nice open and runnable, some are 15' tall dense saplings, then there's the prickly stuff. Not that there will be many courses next weekend where going through here will be a logical route choice, but do want to present a truer picture of the vegetation for those whose logic might lead them astray. Note to self - thin O pants are not suitable attire for mapping where there might be prickers - tougher leg covering, preferable with an added layer of duct tape, is needed to avoid the raw and bloody look.

Rechecking some of the nuances on the smaller islands out on the lake - today there are 4 separate chunks of rock/soil/trees/bushes sticking above water level, however if the water level drops 6", two of the "channels" between them would no longer be navigable. If it drops another 4", the last channel is rock and mud. Might as well simplify - racers can figure it out.

Lee Town Forest, cut short because my tablet battery did not start at 100% charge. I found a battery pack that does provide enough oomph to keep the tablet charged, but it only seems to work at keeping it fully charged. If the tablet starts at less than 100%, external battery seems to have the attitude of "can't get it back to full, so why even try"
