orienteering 44:00 [4] **** 3.0 km (14:40 / km)
shoes: jalas red ones

Relay leg 2. Started off okay. There was a control between 2 power thingys and I went to the wrong side of one and fell into this nettles up to my waist bit which was so sore I had tears whilst running. Apart from that it was all goig pretty decent until after the spectator control where I just got caught in the flow of all the other people and went into the woods with them but this was too far for my control and once I realised I'd overshot it I figured I needed to push the pace more. I tried playing it safe by taking the path, what I didn't realise was there was a smaller path going pretty much in the same direction to begin with but then it was one that wasn't on the map. I took a bearing off the path I thought I was on and I could hear the cars and so was convinced I was close! I got into the scratchy horribleness like the forest in snow white which was out to get me, when I couldn't find it I knew I had to relocate but I had no idea where I was and everything looked the same in all directions. I managed to get out and get back to close to my previous control which was when I stopped to have a proper look at my map and I saw the tiny dead end kind of path pretty much on top of the other but it must've continued. I managed it fine the second time. I felt soo bad for letting down my team and worse cos my younger sister was on the same gaffle and like half my time.

orienteering race 1:27:00 [4] *** 7.3 km (11:55 / km) +210m 10:25 / km
shoes: jalas red ones

Tried to be clever and cut the corner of the path to number 1, bit of a stupid plan got stuck in all this minging stuff. Number 3 I took a silly route cos I was gonna go round the path but then I realised half way up how much extra climb that was so I went through the stripy bit with all the disgustingness and muddiness on the ground, it was ok just quite slow, found the control okayish...a few of my bearings were a bit off like number 8 I went too far up the path and then had to go back down again. After the spectator control I think I was getting tired (this was the longest course iv ever done in my life) and I particularly disliked the really long legs that just seemed to go on and on through this horrible area. The out of bounds tape on number 15 was a bit confusing and I ended up overshooting the control and being too far down. I relocated ok though. The rest was okay, I thought overall I'd done okay as I'd made no major mistakes which was an improvement. I guess I was just really slow or something then, but I didn't feel particularly slow and i was trying so hard the whole way round.
