Orienteering race 1:23:21 [3] 14.59 km (5:43 / km) +115m 5:30 / km
shoes: Integrator Oct 2013

Pleasant area and lots of controls to keep you interested. Avoided the rain which was nice, but an early start probably cost me some time.

Felt like I was going ok; disappointed with result. Lots of small time losses, but nothing too significant other than the long leg when I didn't see the best option, then took pretty much the worst combination of some inferior options... Evidently not fast enough (in general) but especially so for such runnable terrain.

#4 Too low. 25s
#5 Went out to the path which was unnecessary. 10s
#6 Dithered over which clearing I was heading for. 10s
#7 Traffic. 5s
#8 Too far north. 15s
#10 Looking on the wrong part of the ditch (too high). 20s
#12 Slightly too far west initially, hesitant correcting. 10s
#16 Straight out to the ride must have been quicker. 10s
#18 Went straight but had a hard time making the map fit. Very hesitant and hence following the ride may have been quicker. 20s
#19 Followed Schorah. Didn't vault the gates like he did though!
#21 Truly awful route choice. 1m 30s+
#30 Detour to cross watercourse was unnecessary. 15s
#31 Looking on the wrong patch initially. 15s
#32 Bumbled towards two incorrect controls before working it out. 25s
#33 Simple, but doubted myself. 10s

16th of 35 (+4) 20min down on Ed Catmur today.

Orienteering race 1:01:42 [4] 12.42 km (4:58 / km) +62m 4:51 / km
shoes: Karrimor Excel Dual

Not a bad urban race, with several relatively intricate sections.

#8 Missed the small cut-through on the line - the eastern route I took was a little further. 10s
#18 Came to a dead-end / high fence west of the building where a gap and crossable fence were shown on the map... 15s
#19 Wide eastern route would have been better. 10s
#21 Hedge was not shown clearly on the map. Eastern route far better as a result. 30s
#27 Had a brain freeze trying to work out how to get to the bridge. 30s
#37 Mapping unclear so went fractionally longer but safer route. 5s

13th of 42 (+5). 11m 40s down on Ed Catmur.
