trail Run (doggie jog) 1:00:00 [2] 5.0 km (12:00 / km)

Even at 7 a.m it was already pretty warm, but pleasant in the shade in the park. Jogged/walked with Kato to get out before it was too hot. Tough weekend for poor Kato. He knows something's up. His owner leaves, in tears, I appear, my mom is packing his stuff up, she's crying. He's was really good in the car but clearly worried and a but scared I think.

trail Run (London) 1:10:00 [3] 10.0 km (7:00 / km)

Stinking hot, breezeless day - hottest for me this summer. Crazy that the hottest days this summer have been in Sept.
Drove to London to get Kato - our new foster dog. Great dog, but we are not realistically the best family for a dog. (So, if anyone out there is looking for a 5 yr-old friendly, well-behaved, medium -sized, running dog let me know. A black poodle-whippet cross so he's fast, and used to running off leash on trails, and open parks daily.) Goose is not excited to have a dog in the house,
but it's more that Tman is already a lot of work.
Kato and I had a good run on the Medway Creek trails - it was relatively cool in the shade and crossing the creek.

Note

Drive home, reflect and cry day. Have "retired" from coaching at camp. It was a tearful goodbye for sure but I'm happy to be letting it go while I still love the place and the people as much as ever. Forty-one years is a long time to keep returning to the same place every August to coach volleyball. But the camp is so beautiful and the people so sincere and nice it's just been a given every year. This was the first year of their lives that Tman and the Girl weren't at camp, nor Goose (as he still couldn't bend his knee). It was a bit weird not having them there, and very emotional saying good bye, but I'm happy.

cycling (road/rail trail) 1:30:00 [3] 35.0 km (2:34 / km)

After a rest day yesterday driving back from camp (for a useless PD day) I needed to get out. Rode up Duffy's, across Castlederg to Humber Station, up to the rail trail through to Mt. Pleasant and back. Felt great. Another spectacular day too but hot. Then Goose and I went to a memorial gathering for our friend Frits/Fred Loek. He died suddenly last Sunday, aged 66. Celebrated his 39th anniversary last Fri., rode 200km Sat. and had a massive heart attack Sunday. So sad. But he lived large and went out still doing what he loved. There were a lot of people at the Don Rowing Club tonight. We've lost a great guy.

swim (camp) 30:00 [3] 1.3 km (23:05 / km)

Super hot sunny day. Hottest I've been all summer I think - so I had to swim. Jogged trails down to the lake and had a delicious swim. Best and furthest of the summer - shoulder didn't hurt :)

cycling (road) 45:00 [5] 15.0 km (3:00 / km)

Hotter day but clear and dry and windless. Rode to Schutt and past about a km. Down the monster hill, woohoo! then turned around and climbed back up - it's a mother of a hill. Thought I might have to get off and walk, but I did make it back up with just enough time to jump in the lake before supper.

cycling (road) 40:00 [3] 13.0 km (3:05 / km)

SHort lunch break ride up the highway to Genrick Rd. and up it for a while then up the road toward Schutt. Beautiful day, spectacular scenery but only short periods of time when not coaching volleyball.

swim (camp) 25:00 [3] 1.0 km (25:00 / km)

Not a really hot day but I did want to get into the lake - it's awesome. Chilly but gorgeous.
