Apart from the idiots who are still acting like everything is normal...

Waiting for curfews to be imposed (like Hoboken, NJ); being impressed by the seriousness of the local response; being overwhelmed by the expectation that we will both continue to work full time (or more than) while simultaneously adding 40 hours of child care to our responsibilities. Deciding what to do as a board member of our kids' former preschool: when do we lay off teachers? Luckily, not yet, since we have substantial cash reserves.

Hoping that the forests don't get closed...

The local news last night ran some interviews in the local bar district (Fell's Point) about the St. Pats patrons. Not once, but twice they showed a guy dressed up as a leprechaun - red beard, green hat, the works - encouraging people to come out and celebrate. "C'mon, its St. Patrick's day, you *have* to do it." Wee idiot notwithstanding, why did the news even run that? They spent the rest of the half-hour broadcast talking about quarantines, closures and personal precautions.

We're in the middle of moving our lab from a larger space into a smaller one down the hall. I've spent the past few weeks sorting and packing gear so we can cram into the new space, and we had to hire a crew to move a very heavy table for us (2.5 tons). All the while taking data up to the last minute. On Friday we relayed the sensitive electronics down the hall and got everything moved in, but I still have plumbing, grounding and lots of communication lines to hook up. The network is finally installed in the new space. Once everything is up I can run it remotely, but its been a mad dash to get ahead of possible closures. Heading in this afternoon to take advantage of a quiet Sunday. Fortunately I can work alone in there with access through the loading dock. We had a mandatory telework day on Thurs to stress the system, and now we're on voluntary telework which most people are doing I think. All travel and local events cancelled or postponed. My boss was heading to Japan in June to present results, but that's off now.

Yeah feet, I got my first big grant this cycle - my first year productivity after maternity leave plus this is going to be nothing. I hope agencies are kind!

But other things are more important right now. I guess I’m just not getting promoted any time soon!

I heard a politician (D from NJ I think) say today that "we need a plan." Where's Elizabeth when we need her??
I agree, wish she were president. :-(
