...where the air quality is unhealthy.

We're happy the venue isn't being evacuated but smoke keeps settling in the valleys. They've postponed the middle event until later today, maybe, pending an improvement in air quality based on wind direction changes, but it's still hanging in the mid 200s as of 9AM Pacific.

Who knows what summer at NAOC will be like in 2023?

Thanks Janet and Charlie, I appreciate your thoughts. And yes, I have been following these fires and the smoke they generate. We had big plans with the US Champs, visiting Christoph and family in Portland and visiting Oregon a bit before a "jump" back to my homeland, Colorado. But, I'd never like to travel where people are in distress bc they usually have enough to do (unless I could help, of course!). And seeing those smokey pictures, I am actually glad not being there as I don't want to expose my lungs nor my health to this.
But I looked at the pictures of the sprint and the middle (Charlie, didn't I see you on one?), and it still made me sad seeing those beautiful open woods to run through (though at my age I seem to stumble more through them).
Just spent a bike-O weekend in the area of the Alsace (Vosges) up on 1000 m with yet another weekend of cold rain, wind, mud and fall-like conditions. We've had this long period of rainy weather, lots and lots of rain over again, but mostly cold temperatures. It is amazing to me (still) that our big lake Neuchâtel has risen over 1 m and is still flooding most beaches.
Stay safe and hopefully, we'll see each other again. Big hugs :-).

Hi Beatrice: yes, I had a picture in from the sprint, but then we decided it was too smoky and skipped the middle and the long. Too bad, but it seemed like the right decision for us.

Beatrice, you would have loved the middle terrain (I did, even though I couldn't run like I wished; and the course was short tho' the walk to start was long), and done fine on today's course which stayed out of the dangerous scree slope area the slightly younger women had to endure.

I think we survived the smoke okay (air quality index is down in the double digits now! though it's forecasted to get worse again), but I'm not sure about the dusty roads!

We missed you and Charlie, but today was definitely a good day for Charlie to skip, course-wise, as well as smoke-wise.
