This is a lot of terrain running unbroken by any cross-training. Are you training for something in particular?

Maybe. Pacing at Leadville 100, and hoping to run a 100k while we’re in Oregon in October, and then run Leadville in 2024. However…. Tweaked my knee three weeks ago. Had a Week off training while volunteering at an art fair, then another week off letting the knee calm down. Lots of walking the past week redoing a map and setting a couple sprints for this coming Tuesday. Tried a run on Saturday but knee started barking again. Frustrating.

Nice goals that will definitely take a long slow training to prepare for. Knees are annoying being the wobbly part below hips, glues, and anything we do oddly because of fatigue. You might want to mix some strength training & stretching each week. I am a lousy follower of my own advice; I do weights occassionally but mostly in the winter and stretching requires a ton of peer-pressure.

I try to do functional strength training 3x/week, but only log it sporadically. I stretch before each of those sessions and before every run. I don't normally log the stretching. Where I fail miserably is keeping up with the strength and stretching when injured. W/o the cardio I stop sleeping well and that piles on.... Hopped back on the trainer today to see if the knee will tolerate that. Didn't bother me while riding, see how it feels in an hour or three.

When do you leave for Scotland?

It is the cardio that is motivating for me too, and it is much better for my moods than just strength. Cycling takes so much time for the same effect, but I have been doing a bit more.

3rd week in July to the Coast and Islands meet first.

Agreed wrt the bike, but the indoor trainer and the Zwift workout catalog help.
