JennyJ: if it's any consolation it took at least that long going A14-M1 in any case!

rachael: i was doing so well speeding up the a1 until the road closed bit. the diversion went through melton mowbray, don't plan to ever go there again!

JennyJ: I was gonna say that!

MikeS: Isn't A14 / M1 quicker anyway?

fish: I think A14 - M1 is good (assuming no accidents on the A14 - which in winter means 2-3 per week, but has been ok this spring/summer). Indeed Melton Mowbray is hell - took me almost as long to get from leicester - grantham as it does to get from leicester to cambridge. All because of that place.

rachael: a1/a57 is shorter and therefore better at 2am when there's no traffic plus theres a million speed cameras on a14 so you have to drive at the correct speed. although when they shut the a1 the m1 wins hands down!
